Images from New York City during the weeks following Hurricane Sandy to be self-published as a photography book
Project Background: Destruction and Strength
In the days after the five boroughs of New York City were devastated by Hurricane Sandy, I was compelled to take to the streets to document the destruction of the storm. From flooded businesses to power outages in all of lower Manhattan to homes completely destroyed in Staten Island, it had become apparent that New York City is not as invincible against Mother Nature as we had once believed.
While walking around the streets of Manhattan and volunteering in Staten Island, I witnessed the strength of people coming together to help the families affected by Hurricane Sandy. Moved by what I have seen, my goal is to share the story of New York City and its people in my efforts to support the relief effort. With your help, I will self-publish a book of the photographs taken during this time (see below for a preview).
Several of the photos included in the book have been featured on BuzzFeed.com. One photo was selected as one of four finalists in the United States for the Metro Photo Challenge, the world's largest photo competition.
Benefits of supporting this project include limited and open edition prints of photos included in the book, first edition hard cover copies and digital copies of the book, and a two-hour street photography lesson in New York City for you and a guest.
Strength After Sandy: The Book
All photos will be in black & white and were taken in New York City in the weeks of the storm's aftermath. The hard cover book will be in 10x8 inches (25x20 cm) landscape orientation and include approximately 75-100 photos printed on premium lustre paper (100 lbs, 148 GSM).

Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
100% of the photography in Manhattan and Staten Island has been completed. I plan to take more photos in Brooklyn and Queens to tell a complete story of the relief effort. My main challenge is to complete the book design and written content in order to print the book by February 2013. With the upcoming holiday break, I will be able to finish the project by the proposed deadline. Another challenge is reaching my goal of $1,000 and more to produce this self-published book.
