About this project

With Great Power Comes...Repetitive Obligations?

Your job probably requires you to do just about the same task over and over again day in and day out. Super heroes have it no different if you think about it. How many times can you save the world from aliens or rescue the President's daughter before it just gets dull?

The Obligated Combustor is a comic that addresses this and many other un-answered questions about the day to day lives of earth's mightiest saviors. Glenn Hinkle never wanted any kind of extraordinary life, but the grumpy ex-electrician lost his say in the matter when a super science experiment gave him the power to accelerate his particles in incredible ways. Now Glenn can move faster than over-night mail, he's stronger than all of your dads put together, and the height of his power includes the potential to combust his own body and rapidly heal it simultaneously!

Too bad this near-god of a man wants nothing to do with the hero business. The only reason he's saving banks and substituting his body as a railway is so the media will stop calling him a good for nothing. Combustor and his court-appointed sidekick "Phuktup" are reluctantly at the beck and call of a super-human government office known as the FBEI. Together these jaded crusaders fight countless villains hailing from the most exotic far reaches of the globe.

How do we get Combustor into action?

In order to tell the harrowing adventures of The Obligated Combustor, I need dollars. A thousand of them would pay for artist fees and the first print. As you can see to your right, every level of pledge gets you a copy of the comic in some way or another. I'm a big believer in digital comics, and all backers who pledge more than a dollar are rewarded with a digital version of Combustor as well as a few other neat things.

But is it going to be any good?

At this point, I'm looking for funds to actually get the book drawn. I'd do it myself but I'm more confident as a writer than an artist. But without any kind of sample or product to preview how can I assure you that this comic is worth reading?

By doing what I know: Alongside this Kickstarter page, you can learn all you want about Combustor and all his allies at Glenn's official blog. There you can learn about some of the concepts I have for the book, script samples, in-character posts and other material that can demonstrate what it is I want to accomplish with this book. This production blog will be updated daily.

Okay so, how about details?

The first issue of The Obligated Combustor will be 20 pages of black and white indie comic goodness, full of action, humor and drama. As a special thanks to this audience, there will be an exclusive to Kickstarter backers varient cover edition, which will only be printed once. The official cover version will also be available to backers, who will get the comic before it is made available to the public. No matter which edition you get, both come with a digital copy of the book so you can read it on your computer, or your iThing, or email it to your memaw or whatever.

Finally, I would like to thank everyone who is kind enough to help me fund this project. I want nothing more in this world than to be able to create and share my stories through comics. The Obligated Combustor is just the tip of the mind-iceberg I have waiting for you future readers and present backers, and I hope that because of innovative and supportive communities such as Kickstarter that countless other artists, (myself included,) have the opportunity to do what we love and share what entertains us all.
