About this project
What is Learnapalooza? Learnapalooza is a free, day-long neighborhood festival happening on June 19th, 2010 in the Wicker Park neighborhood of Chicago where community members will exchange skills with one another. Anyone who has anything to share – and basically we all do – can offer a workshop. We are providing a fun and free way for neighbors to share their passions and everyone to learn new skills.
How does it work? Neighborhood residents, artists, and business owners will share their knowledge, skills, and passions by leading free workshops throughout the day in Wicker Park spaces that businesses have offered for the event. Workshops will include: yoga, cooking, self defense, swing dancing, candle making, balloon animal creation, poker, and more! Everyone is welcome to participate and attend this event. In addition to fostering free, creative exploration, Learnapalooza will give neighbors a chance to meet one another in a setting which allows for the foundation of new and interesting relationships.
We hope the festival encourages all attendees to realize on how much they have to teach and learn from others, hopefully sparking future connections facilitated by Learnapalooza’s partner project, a website called CommuniTeach (http://communiteach.com) that enables people to freely exchange skills and learn from one another throughout the year.
What will your backing support? The community will provide the space and the teaching skills, but putting on a successful festival still takes support. Your pledge will help us:
*Spread the word and recruit community teachers through fliers, postcards, banners, and ads. *Print maps and programs guiding learners to teachers during Learnapalooza *Provide water to learners during the hot Chicago summer day *Provide for day-of refreshment and t-shirts for our volunteers, making them a visible presence in the neighborhood to help direct attendees traveling between events *Supply classes with teaching materials for hands-on lessons

Class of your choice...at the location of your choice: Want to get the learning party started before June 19th? We can't blame you. We'll give you a list of workshop options. Let us know which one you and your family/friends want to learn, and we will provide a class in that topic, either private or small group instruction, anywhere in the Chicagoland area. Private SAT tutoring for your children? Sure thing. Sushi making workshop with your gal pals? We've got it covered. If you don't see anything you like, let us know what you'd rather learn and we will try to make it happen. This won't include the cost of materials, but it will include all gifts from lower levels of pledging, plus Champion placement on the Honor Roll.

Sponsor a course: Put your company, nonprofit, or family name on one of the courses throughout the day. Yoga presented by you. Italian for beginners presented by your Italian restaurant. Appear on all class schedules, programs, and on the website. You, your non-profit, or business will also be recognized by name at the class. Also included are all gifts from lower levels of pledging, plus recognition as a "Patron of Learning" on the Honor Roll.
