About this project

Four undergraduate students from Ball State University (Muncie, IN) will be attending The Slash Pine Poetry Festival in Tuscaloosa, Alabama as part of a Creative Writing Student Exchange program. During this trip, these students will gain first-hand experience reading at a literary festival, gain exposure to the literary festival environment, visit one of the top Creative Writing programs in the nation, and meet with accomplished writing professionals. Additionally, they will be able to share their chapbooks, broadsides, and videos of the readings with people. The money raised for this trip will help cover the costs of the trip not covered by the university.

The Students: To us, reading at the festival is the culmination of a creative project lasting several years: developing our craft of writing. The travel we will undertake will allow us to exhibit and share our work with a whole new audience through our readings, an audience we may otherwise never reach. Our trek will also bring a chapbook and videos to this unique audience. We are thrilled for such an opportunity, and with fundraising, we will be able to share our growth as writers via said chapbook, the videos, and the readings themselves. We hope you will consider our project, as this is an incredible, perhaps once-in-a-lifetime, opportunity.

Tyler Gobble is stoked about something. He shouts around the web, like at his blog, like as a contributor at Vouched Online, like in his Smalldoggies Magazine column. He also helps out with The Collagist. Send him a message: no one likes to be stoked alone.

Layne Ransom remembers the Titans. She is currently a poetry editor for The Broken Plate and once ran over a felled tree with a ’97 Oldsmobile Cutlass. Her things have been spotted in decomP, vis a tergo, amphibi.us, and other places. You look nice today.

Things were hard at the horse farm/nuclear power plant, for Jeremy Bauer. His mother eventually had five arms, not out of mutation from all substandard conditions, but out of necessity. His father fused with three horses, and though he held the glory of being the first tricentaur in existence, he was in a great deal of pain all 107 years of his black-maned life. The cloud of Jeremy Bauer worked to help support his melting family and eventually made it to Ball State University, where he studied creative writing. He has published poetry and nonfiction in The Broken Plate and his molecules blog at ohbabyohman.blogspot.com. The family smiles often.

Elysia Smith is the lead fiction editor for The Broken Plate. Her work has recently appeared in elimae. She has traveled many places in her life but few have affected her as much as the city of New Orleans. She loves tattoos, cats, and boys who wear hats well.
