About this project

(We made our goal!!!! Woohooooo! Thank you backers!  AND please know that any extra dollars will go towards paying the artists instead of asking people to work for free, AND toward banking funds for our next performance.  Don't be shy! We'll still accept your love and money, and give you rewards in return!!)

Big Exit is a kind of theatrical love letter to human beings who work work work and dream of flight.  A dance-clown extravaganza the piece looks at the desire to transcend the mundane, and celebrates imagination as a means of escape.  The piece is a comedy about what shit jobs do to the soul, and the longing for something more...

We  (Sara Zimmerman and Eliza Ladd) performed a work-in-progress performance of the piece at the Kitchen in New York in April.  We are now working to finish the piece so we can take it to this festival on Governor's Island called Figment.  In order to do that we need to rent rehearsal space in Brooklyn.  We need to build new costumes so we have fantastic, dynamic, costumes that will really pop in an outdoor space.  And we need to do some basic documentation of the piece, and need to get ourselves to and from the island!  This is what your dollars pay for!

Jess Hooks, our designer, built the costumes for our work in progress in a flash.  We can't wait to see what she'll do with a bit of money and more time.  We are working hard to polish the piece, and are super excited to perform for the public for FREE.
