Amy Powell is an aerialist who lives a few hours outside of Atlanta in the North Georgia Mountains. She is the founder and director of Grounded High Aerial Dance Ensemble. For the past year she has taught aerial dance in the Fine Arts Department at Chattanooga State Community College. Before this, she danced as a performing member of Canopy Studio's Repertory Dance Company in Athens, GA. Amy has done aerial dance for nearly nine years. She has taught classes of all ages and abilities and performed in over 13 different full scale dance productions as well as countless other private and corporate performances including one for Volkswagon. Amy choreographs all of her own work and has choreographed for others as well. She has performed on dance trapeze, aerial fabrics, aerial cube, bungee, slings, as well as in acrobalance and floor dance routines.
Through her years of exploring dance, Amy has had the opportunity to train and work with Susan Murphy (a pioneer in Aerial Dance), Elsie and Serenity Smith (former Cirque du Soleil performers), and Matt Kent (dancer for Pilobolus).
In addition to dancing, Amy writes and owns a small publishing company called Shiny Red Ball Publishing. www.shinyredball.com
