About this project
Thanks to stupid, uninsured and unexpected medical emergencies late last year and more in the first half of this year, I'm in a bind with my gear hocked to the limit. With your support, I could save that gear and have some travel cash to get to where the JBs are.
I still revere the talent and music of these three guys and the opportunity to work with them yet again, to make and advance hiphop *again* with them, it sounds cheesy but it's a rare chance to live that dream yet again.
We've already made a rough start to work off the rust and get their lyrics flowing, but to take the music beyond simple loops and samples using real instruments, I'll need that equipment and eventually a little travel cash to get to where the Jungle Brothers are.
The plan is to generate three albums: a more "commercial," Native Tongues-style Jungle Brothers album, a more "out," Crazy Wisdom Masters/Jay Beez Wit' Da Remedy-style advanced hiphop record, and......a 120+bpm club banger album that starts with the hiphouse style of "I'll House You" and updates and advances it to the current state of the art and beyond.

That's the very beginning of one of the first tracks for the NEW Jungle Brothers record, either the "hiphop" record or the "Voodoo Slinky" project.

I've had an unusual career in music; at one point I was part of one of the first punk rock bands in the USA (the Vomit Pigs) in 1976; I've been fortunate enough to work with my favorite hiphop artists, the Jungle Brothers, and remain friends ever since.
Through the late 80's into the mid 90's, I did all kinds of edits and remixes for major labels (before every A&R man in the country had ProTools on his office desk), mostly when living in LA and NYC. When the possibility of a Jungle Brothers reunion was floated by their DJ, Sammy B, I knew I would want to be part of it and was gratified to find that they wanted me in as well.
Currently, I'm writing the songs for and playing in an indie-rock band in Austin, TX called Beautiful Supermachines and looking to produce, mix, and master bands that I like here or anywhere else.
There will soon be an interview with me at this blog: http://unheard78.blogspot.com/2011/01/david-williams-is-awesome.html
(That link is an enthusiastic post of a VERY early scratch track that I sent Af of the JBs-- just enough for him to get a feel and work on lyrics before more work is done)
that will clear up some confusion about my participation on the third Jungle Brothers album, work which much to my surprise, has proven influential to underground hiphop in the intervening years.
