OLD FASHIONED PROSTITUTES is a new work for five actors written, designed and directed by Richard Foreman marking his return to theater

Richard Foreman is undertaking a new project, "Old-Fashioned Prostitutes (A True Romance)". A new work for five actors, conceived, written, designed, and directed by Foreman, this play is created in a way that departs from the heavy use of props and scenic elements that have been his trademark. Mr. Foreman will use 45 pages of written, melancholic scenes treating unrequited love, side by side with another 45 pages of more abstract, surreal material. In rehearsal, Foreman will experiment with different ways of folding the additional material into the body of the main text, disrupting and coloring it in productive ways. The texts will specifically not be combined prior to rehearsal so that the actors in the moment will create a combinatory effect of text upon text.

Foreman will spend four weeks in residence at Baryshnikov Arts Center (BAC) this July 2012 culminating in two workshop showings open by invitation only. This residency will function as an artistic benchmark that will help Foreman develop the play, and act as an integral part of his creative process.

The Ontological-Hysteric Theater is seeking donations to help fund this residency. BAC is generously donating the space, but that does not include many expenses including actor's fees and production costs. This new work is especially poignant because it marks Foreman's first major theatrical production since leaving his theater at St. Marks Church to make film.

Following the residency at BAC, Foreman will work independently to complete the script. The final production will premiere at the Public Theater's Martinson Theater, in association with the Ontological-Hysteric Theater, on April 30, 2013 and run through June 2, 2013.

Please consider being a part of this historic moment for Richard Foreman and help us reach our goal!!!
