Out of This World Comic Book Project

The "Out of This World" (OOTW) comic book series is a project I've been working on for quite some time. The first four comic books (with activities) came out several years ago and were aimed at the school counselor crowd.
These four issues had an ongoing story line but had individual skill building activities and learning objectives for each issue. These objectives included anger management, bullying, concentration and motivation. The first four issues were published by Youthlight. The artist on the book was Eric Erbes. I wrote and lettered the series.
Recently, I restarted the project and have been working with a local artist named Steve Ott. While we are not focusing on specific learning objectives for each issue we are still working under the OOTW motto: "Characters Teaching Character'.
This new graphic novel will be kid friendly. While we certainly want the book to be entertaining, we are also very serious in our mission to make sure that there are positive messages throughout the story.
We have also begun to create a webcomic to introduce more characters, tell more stories, and to promote the graphic novel. This is an exciting new development for the OOTW series.
Steve and I have been working on this graphic novel for months now, whittling away at it passionately. We are committed to working on the book and are focused on self publishing.
However, self publishing comes with some costs. Finding colorists for covers, colorists for the webcomic, maybe even a colorist for the entire series. When you are looking at at least a 100 page graphic novel at at least $50 per page for a colorist, the costs can add up quickly. Then comes obtaining an ISBN number and all that on the publishing end.
I would also like to be able to supplement Steve, even a fraction of his page rate, since he does all the hard work. I sit and write whatever comes to my head. He has to create that on paper. He doesn't know I'm doing this, so it will be a good surprise I am sure.
I think it is also important to point out that any extra costs, such as webhosting and website development, will be funded out of my own pocket. I don't want any Kickstarter donations to be going to that aspect of this release. Kickstarter donations will only apply to the actual creation and publication of the book.
I hope you find this project exciting enough to lend a hand. Please stay tuned (even if you don't want to help fund it...we still love ya!) at www.ootwcomic.com!
Gets a shout out in the book and our site. Will include your name and website or company if applicable.
Post your work on www.ootwcomic.com! If you are an artist, creator or musician we'll point you out!

Hey everyone, hope all is well. Thanks for stopping by my little corner of Kickstarter.
So, where do I begin.
Well, for starters, I wear a couple of hats. Mental health counselor. Writer. Comic book creator. Letterer. Most important of my hats of course are daddy, husband and son.
As a mental health counselor who has been working with children and families for over 10 years now and a lover of comic books for most of my life, a while back I decided there needed to be some comic books that could be used to help kids work through some of the major issues of their time.
Since I had never created a comic book before I just had some rough ideas and moved on with my life (getting married, finishing grad school, having kids, you know, the easy stuff!)
At some point the idea came full circle and I had a couple of opportunities to get my ideas published. To make a long story short, I had four comic books developed and published earlier this century (sounds like a long time ago doesn't it).
Since then I've continued to have the writer's itch to get back to the characters and do some comics based solely upon entertaining kids. Kid friendly comics if you will. Life events (the good kind; marriage, kids, starting a counseling center) kept my free time to explore more writing adventures to a minimum.
Until Steve and I met one day. A local artist. Interested in drawing OOTW. Where we could actually sit down and chat. And his style for the project is exactly what I was hoping for. Perfect!
So I started polishing off my plots and scripting out a story.
Which pretty much brings you up to speed on everything OOTW related.
I hope you enjoy the books. Make sure to grab one for any kids you might know.
And hey, feel free to drop me a line if you have questions or just want to chat comics.
