Amazing Z’EV - wild style punk era scrap metal music - extraordinary range of acoustic phenomena - trance-inducing sounds.
“Heart Beat Ear Drum” is a feature length documentary about Z’EV, most known for creating metal structures and using them as percussion instruments. Since 2007, I have followed Z’EV, shooting concerts and interviews, collecting archival footage. Z’EV began with a “wild style,” crashing and throwing pieces of metal to make sound. He collected the materials for his art at scrap yards. 30 years later, almost all the scrap yards are closed. Z’EV now uses mallet percussion to explore acoustic phenomena. Z’EV is a crusader: for art, for trance meditation, and for living a thoughtful life. His found object aesthetic makes us see art in all of the objects around us. His art activities include drumming, sculpture, gardening, even cooking.
Funding is for sound design and mixing, color correction.
