A modern day romantic comedy about a woman looking for love in the big city, but one tiny problem gets in her way…bed bugs!
ABOUT THIS PROJECT:
Hi! Thank you so much for checking out our page and for supporting our project.
"The Bed Bug Thing" is a quirky and heart-warming story about Stacy, a woman who has recently broken up with her boyfriend and is living with the baggage he left behind – that is to say the bed bugs he brought home when he cheated on her! Committed to finding her one true love, she begins to navigate the dating scene as well as her new found fear of the little itchy creatures that have recently plagued her life.
I wrote the script for “The Bed Bug Thing” earlier this year in a class taught by Pete Goldfinger, a professional screenwriter in Los Angeles. I took Pete’s class with the intention of trying my hand at writing and wound up creating a screenplay that, much to my delight, impressed numerous LA industry folks. It was Pete who then encouraged me to shoot the film and has been an invaluable mentor throughout the process.

CAST and CREW:
In addition to Pete, I have been blessed with an incredible array of people who have signed on to this project. John Livingston, a wonderfully talented and well-known Hollywood actor will be playing my love-interest. Victoria Kelleher, will play the role of my best friend; if you watch TV chances are you’ve seen this hilarious actress in more than one national commercial. Courtney Cunningham is set to direct and, with her strong background in comedy, physical comedy and clowning, will bring this script to life in a way that I never even dreamed was possible! My director of photography, Joey Liew, and camera crew (including Dominic Garcia) are part of the flourishing New Mexico film industry and work on such critically acclaimed shows as “Breaking Bad” and “In Plain Sight”.
The goal for “The Bed Bug Thing” is to be accepted into national and international film festivals and, ultimately, to expand the story into a full-length, feature film all the while gaining exposure for the cast and crew within our field. (Did you know Billy Bob Thornton’s “Sling Blade," Wes Anderson’s first film “Bottle Rocket," and Robert Rodriguez’s “Sin City” all started out as fully produced short films?)
WHY WE NEED YOU:
My cast and crew are graciously working for little, if any, of what they normally earn, which has helped curb our budget, but our film will still cost thousands of dollars to make; equipment rental, location permits, film insurance, transportation, food for the cast and crew, hair, makeup, costumes, lighting, post-production, film festivals submission fees – the list grows daily.
I would greatly appreciate your financial support and am asking you to make an investment in “The Bed Bug Thing”. Any amount is welcome and all investors will get a mention in the ‘special thanks’ section of the film’s closing credits (and some other special treats you can see listed on the right side of the page). I understand that times are tough and if you are unable to make a financial investment, I would be equally thrilled if you passed this link to anyone you think might be willing to donate.
We are making this film because we believe in making art and creating our own opportunities. Thank you for helping us achieve these goals!
Courtney Cook and the entire Bed Bugs team!
