Art book collecting the dark fantasy art of world renowned artist Tom Baxa. 112 pages of gruesome creatures that are both menacing and captivating!
Welcome to my Kickstarter page. For those of you who don’t know me or my work, let me give you a little introduction. My name is Tom Baxa and I’ve been a professional fantasy illustrator for over 20 years! I’ve worked on a bunch of paper and pencil role-playing games including Dungeons and Dragons and collectable card games like Magic: the Gathering and World of Warcraft tcg. I also do concept art for video games, miniature games, and film. Short but sweet.
The Project - Blood Rituals: The Art of Tom Baxa:
It’s always been my dream to have my very own art book. I grew up looking at books by other artists feeling awestruck and inspired, hoping that one day I would be an accomplished artist and inspire the imagination of other people like those artists did for me.
So the day is finally here! I’m compiling “Blood Rituals: The Art of Tom Baxa” – a full color art book with over 100 pages of kick butt, in-your-face, crackling with energy, artwork by yours truly.
There’s going to be all kinds of great stuff from your favorite games. Even if you’re not a gamer, you’ll love looking through this book. The book includes some of my favorite paintings and drawings going back years, as well as some never-before-seen artwork. Cover paintings, interior illustrations, full color oil and gouache paintings, black + white pen and ink drawings, concept art, and some new digital montage work. There’s going to be a section dedicated to my Wicked Fairies® characters, some of my short stories, sketches and more! This is one cool book. Specs: 112 pages, 8.5" x 11", full color, perfect bound.
Here’s your chance to enjoy a ton of art NEVER before collected in one book by one of the leading fantasy artists in rpg and ccg games. Art from Dungeons and Dragons, Darksun, Dragon magazine, Magic: the Gathering, World of Warcraft tcg, L5R, Shadowrun, Earthdawn, D+D miniatures, Wicked Fairies®, and my own personal work.
Support Fantasy Art! I’m asking for your help to raise the money to bring this book to you and fantasy art buffs everywhere! That amount will cover the cost of a high quality printing the book and any associated costs, like photographing some art, etc.
At the very least, think of it as pre-ordering a copy of a book before it’s released. You get the book, and you’re generating good karma as a patron of the arts by helping me raise money in advance to print the book.
Rewards from Baxa:
In exchange for your generous patronage and support, you get some cool swag, or a signed copy of the book, or even original artwork for your collection! The options are outlined to the right, so check it out. (I get that some of you are just here to support me and that a print of a rotting zombie might not with your décor, so you can also opt not to receive any reward after you pledge.) Rewards will be shipped out in a timely manner after the project is fully funded and the book is printed (summer of 2010).
Free shipping in the US on all Rewards! (except commissioned painting)
My website www.BaxaArt.com has a lot of information and a list of prints and original art available for sale, the Gnomon instructional dvd, and commissions to help you make your choice for your rewards. There’s lotsa cool art to see and stuff for sale there as well. The prints are printed with Epson archival ink on Epson Archival Heavyweight Matte paper. Email me at firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any questions.
Kickstarter: a Groundbreaking Opportunity!
When I first heard about Kickstarter, the idea seemed a little strange. But then I took a closer look. What an awesome opportunity for creative types of all disciplines! I always hear “I love your art, but it's too dark, I can’t sell it.” Bullcrap. There are people out there just like you dying for dark art – and man do I have it!
That’s the beauty of Kickstarter. It helps bring the power back to the creatives and the fans who enjoy their work! Here’s your chance to help contribute to a marketplace where corporations don’t make all the decisions. We have a voice too! You can use your voice to support the little guy, the burgeoning artist striking out to make his mark, and help bring interesting, stimulating, and totally wicked content to the marketplace and directly into your hot little hands!
Kickstarter gives me the opportunity to publish my own work and have complete creative control, so I can put in all the stuff that you’ve been asking for for years, and no one’s looking over my shoulder. When I have control to grow my business, my way, with your help, I can continue to offer you more cool and creepy stuff! (Rest assured, more is coming. This is only the beginning!)
How Kickstarter works:
This is how Kickstarter works in a nutshell, but I encourage you to read the Kickstarter FAQ page. You click on the “Back this Project” button on my page, and enter the amount you want to pledge. You then select the Reward you are eligible for (or none at all). After you create a Kickstarter account, you are directed to Amazon.com to complete your pledge. This was key for me. Amazon is a super secure and trusted company, so I had no hesitation with the process. If you have an Amazon account, it’s a snap. Amazon Payments processes your pledge and sends you a confirmation email. (Note: they may ping your credit card account with an “authorization” to see if your card solvent, but will not “hold” the funds.) At the end of the project/pledge period, if the project’s goal has been reached, then, and only then, will your credit card will be charged. Then Kickstarter sends me your email address so we can communicate and I can send you your reward. If the project fails to reach its goal by the project deadline, your card is never charged. (But this project rocks and is going to hit its mark, no problem, right?)
The great thing is that projects can continue to be funded even after they have reached their goal all the way through the end of the project’s funding deadline. So even if the goal is reached, you can still get your hands on a copy of the book or other rewards!
Thank you so much for supporting my artwork and my project with your kind and generous pledges. I am humbled by the giving nature of others and am grateful that the good in people is continually revealed to me. Live long and prosper -- Tom.
Have a question? If the info above doesn't help, you can ask the project creator directly.
