About this project
Hi! My name is Victoria Vox and I'm a full time touring singer / songwriter with a degree in Songwriting from the Berklee College of Music (Boston, MA).
In 2011, I challenged myself to learn 52 cover songs (a song I did not write). I then MEMORIZED the song and posted it on YouTube every week. :) I can't believe I've completed the 52 Cover Song Project. I uploaded week 52's song on 12/30/11! Whoohoo!
I've been receiving great feedback from the project… and here are some answers to your questions:
*** Please see updates for updated project info!
1. "Will you do a DVD?" I've thought about this… not sure on this one. All the video editing is VERY time consuming, and as you'll read in #3, I don't think I'll WANT to spend time editing 52 videos! (update: 12/24/11 - I think this might be happening now... thanks to a great group of folks in Virginia. I'll keep you posted via victoriavox.com)
2. "Will you put any of these songs out on an album?" YES! I'd like to release an album of your top 12 favorites. I'll be taking votes early in January 2012! (Vote Here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/Top12 ). Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" is not in the project, but, due to popular demand, will be added on the album as a bonus track :) (update 12/25/11 : Since I made the goal, I'd like to say that any extra $ pledged towards this project will help towards the release of the album, "Under the Covers" ;)
3. "I'm going to miss this weekly project! What's next for 2012?!" Oh BOY. I've been thinking about this for a while now. I know what a I want to do… and what I have to do… but I've been VERY SCARED to announce it. But here I go. How about the 52 ORIGINAL SONG PROJECT? eeeeep! After learning all those songs, I know there are still songs to be written and sung, and I CAN NOT WAIT to focus my energy and time to some musical and lyrical exploration. There will be many co-writes, some strange instrumentation in the studio, possibly some instrumentals… who knows?! And now… this is where you can help support the creation of NEW MUSICAL ART.
My rules:
a) If you do not receive 52 mp3s of raw, new music in 2012, I will refund you $1 per mp3 that I failed to deliver at the year's end.
b) If I fail to produce a song for a week, I can make it up in future weeks (within the year, of course)… and possibly send more than one song in a week. I'm hoping I won't have to do that… but I'm just putting that out here now :)
c) I trust that these song files will not be posted elsewhere for public streaming or download. This project is private and for subscribers only.
d) If you don't use/like mp3s, I can make a disc quarterly for you. Just let me know if you'd prefer this option.
e) The recording quality may be different week to week depending where I am and the equipment available to me.
f) Here's a video of Elizabeth Gilbert on nurturing CREATIVITY. (She gets a standing ovation for her outstanding speech). I will do my best to not think about whether or not you might like the song. It's unhealthy artistically to think about the end product before the song is finished. This will be interesting for us all! :)
ARE YOU IN?!?! :)
Thanks for reading, listening, and supporting! :)
