Help us fund a production of Kevin Murphy and Dan Studney's "Reefer Madness" at the Armory Free Theatre in Spring 2012!
"Creeping like a Communist, it's knocking at our doors... turning all your children into hooligans and whores!" Murphy and Studney's lovingly satirical musical adaptation of the 1930s propaganda flick "Reefer Madness" has thrown audiences across the nation into hysterics... and with your help, we can bring it to the Armory Free Theatre!
We want to stage a production of "Reefer Madness" at the Armory Free Theatre the weekend of April 27th, 2012. The time slot has already been approved by the AFT board of directors, but we need help raising the money involved in securing production materials and budgeting for production costs. With your help, we'll be able to put on an entertaining and artistic show that the student and local community can enjoy.

Why It's Important:
Underneath all the merriment, "Reefer Madness" carries with it an important message about freedom of expression and liberation from intolerance. Its statement against government censorship and fear-mongering is always relevant, and should be reinforced publicly whenever possible.
In addition to the important message, this production will provide students at the University of Illinois with the opportunity to explore their artistic expression in leadership roles. The student-produced nature of Armory Free Theatre shows gives every participant valuable independent-production experience, and provides students with a space to experiment with and refine their art. The existence of these spaces and productions is vital to a student's artistic education. Your donation will help the next generation of artists and entertainers take one more step toward their future.
What The Money Is For:
The Department of Theatre at the University of Illinois has graciously agreed to cover the cost of rights and royalties for our production. What remains for us to pay is the fee for production materials rental, which will probably cover the majority of our funding goal. Production materials are things like scripts for the actors and music books for the musicians, and must be obtained directly from the rights holders, Rodgers and Hammerstein Theatricals. The rest of the money will make up our modest production budget, and will go to things like scenic construction, costume rental deposit, props construction and publicity.
On behalf of everyone involved in Reefer Madness, thank you for giving us a chance and I promise you won't be disappointed!
