About this project
Spirit-soaked and hormone-charged, CAMP WANATACHI is a hilarious and provocative new electro-musical where sex is discovered and unexpected love found at an all-girls Christian summer camp.
CAMP WANATACHI follows the story of 14 year-old Jana—an impetuous, pubescent Christian. This summer, Jana’s world is turned upside down when her friendship with Titi O’Malley—a promiscuous, bulimic beauty— challenges her faith and forces her to wrestle with desires she’d rather leave under the covers. Under an idyllic sky and fueled by roasted marshmallows, a cast of eccentric campers and counselors struggle to understand what love truly means.
Our concert last summer could not have happened without your generous support. We are now raising funds for the full production and a 3 week run at La Mama E.T.C. in New York City. Creating a musical is a monumental task not only from a production standpoint but also a financial one. From making copies of the script to building sets to renting rehearsal spaces, all these costs add up. While we are setting our minimum goal for $8K, our production costs actually exceed $30K even with many of members of our group working for free or for far below their normal rates.
Your support is critical to the creation of the full production of CAMP WANATACHI. Any amount will help- even if it is just posting a link to this campaign, mentioning this to a friend or just coming down to La Mama to see the show.
From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you for your time, consideration and generosity.

About the Creative and Production Team:
Created and Composed by Natalie Elizabeth Weiss (of Unicornicopia), and featuring electronic music by glitch-hop pioneer Travis Stewart, aka Machinedrum. Produced by Ian Pai (co-founder of Blue Man Group, Music Director of Fischerspooner), Bridget Regan (star of Disney-ABC’s Legend of the Seeker), and Lydia Cheuk (The Euthanasist), CAMP WANATACHI packs an unexpected punch, providing a score never-before-heard in musical theater. With a shockingly funny book co-written by Weiss and Bekah Brunstetter (OORAH!, Atlantic Theater Company), CAMP WANATACHI is side-splittingly sincere.
Directed by Matt Cowart (Sondheim: The Birthday Concert with The New York Philharmonic), Choreography by Vanessa Walters (Fischerspooner), Arrangements and Orchestrations by Conrad Winslow (The Last Romantic), Music Direction by Zak Sandler (Jurrasic Parq, The Ohmies, Band Geeks!), Scenic and Lighting Design by Marc Janowitz (Blue Man Group, My Morning Jacket, Passion Pit,), Sound Design by Matt Koenig (Blue Man Group), Costumes by Ren LaDassor (Love, Loss And What I Wore) and Casting by Megan Larche, this new musical “defies all expectations of both coming-of-age tails and musicals. The result is refreshing and uplifting.” (TimeOut New York).
We are thrilled to introduce our amazingly talented cast:
Marissa O’Donnell (Jana) was last seen as Teen Fiona in Broadway’s Shrek the Musical, and is featured on the show’s Original Broadway Cast Recording. This summer Marissa will appear in the feature film Peace, Love & Misunderstanding.
Krystina Alabado (Titi) most recently performed in the first national tour of the Tony Award®-Winning musical Spring Awakening, directed by Michael Mayer, which visited 45 U.S. cities over the course of two years.
Natalie Elizabeth Weiss (Corky), who created CAMP WANATACHI, has performed with her band Unicornicopia at venues such as Joe's Pub and MoMA's PS1, has DJed alongside the likes of Steve Martin and Dave Longstreth (Dirty Projectors), and can be heard singing on the new Fischerspooner record, as well as the "Break Up Episode" of This American Life with Phil Collins.
Keaton Whittaker (Lauren) – Currently doing double duty, Keaton is rehearsing with CAMP WANATACHI by day, and by night is starring in the acclaimed Broadway revival of A Little Night Music, opposite legendary stage performers Bernadette Peters and Elaine Stritch.
Alyse Alan Louis (Daisy) joins CAMP WANATACHI following roles in the acclaimed City Center Encores production of Bells Are Ringing, and in Mamma Mia on Broadway, one of the Great White Way’s most successful musicals of all time.
Thom Miller (Joel) is making his La MaMa debut after a series of starring roles at some of the most acclaimed regional theaters in the U.S. – most recently as Kent in Reasons to Be Pretty at The Studio Theatre in Washington, D.C., and as Jaime in The Last Five Years at The Denver Center.
Liz Byrne (Ensemble) has played numerous choice roles in regional productions of High School Musical, Grease, and All Shook Up. Most recently, Liz starred in the New York City workshop reading of Bare.
Hannah DelMonte (Ensemble) was seen in the most recent Broadway revival of Fiddler on the Roof , as well as in numerous U.S. touring and regional productions including 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee and West Side Story.
