"Loc" is a puzzle game of "unlocking" gates to escape the clutches of the last faerie queen who wants you to pay for man's sins.

Loc is a 3D puzzle game for Mac, PC, and mobile devices, in which you have been taken prisoner by the last vengeful Queen of the Faeries who wishes to keep you in her now empty kingdom as a penalty for the harm caused by man on nature's balance. You must escape by solving "loc" puzzles that lie between you and freedom.
Solving these puzzles may seem a simple challenge: a surface is covered with tiles of stone, each with a path carved into it- there are three different types of tiles with different styles of paths, and by knitting those together into one “road” from start to finish, through specific “gate” locations, you unlock each puzzle.

Thing are taken up a notch when the “road” has to run over the 3D surface of a cube, forcing the player to use spatial reasoning to overcome different puzzles of varying complexity.
As you progress your captor grows weaker and weaker- perhaps making you wonder if your victory is worth the destruction of something that only sought to keep nature in balance.
Our game is about the mental: can you figure out a path? Once you have, we didn't want to bog you down with that one square stuck in the corner that drives you insane: we wanted the mental challenge of finding a way from beginning to end to be what the game was about, taking it away from a more traditional "tile-game".
If you solve the puzzle without using every tile, fine: one star. If you use all the tiles: 2 stars, and if you beat the clock: 3 stars.
We now have a free demo for Mac and PC up for trying out 10 levels! NOTE: These demos are built for a minimum resolution of 1280x720

We are a team of game development students from Champlain College in Burlington, VT who have been working on this title for over a year.
Our company is "Birnam Wood Games" and this will be our very first title that we are producing for the public!
We have spent HUNDREDS of hours testing these puzzles and coding them in such a way that there are as many solutions to each level as you can find. We've made a handful of games together over the years but this one will be our first commercial venture and we've worked hard to make it an awesome experience for you.

Of course the biggest reason to donate is this is a GREAT GAME that we want to get out there for everyone. All of our testing has moved us towards an awesome puzzle system that our testers have really enjoyed playing and want to see more of. Not only are the puzzles fun, challenging, and diverse, but the story is something we think really takes the game to the next level.
The Faerie Queen was made for us by the outstanding Heather Campbell, who you might know from her recent work with the TF2 web-comic and the design of "The Administrator". She also did some work on "Portal 2", and has been known for years for great fanart through her site AccioBrain (see some more samples of her work below).
Besides all that it is VITAL to support independent studios that make it possible for awesome new games to reach the public and fuel a constantly changing and growing creative economy. We are a Vermont company, and this state is trying it's best to build a creative media and technology jobs market for it's citizens; those are jobs we want to provide!
And then of course....

We've done our best to be able to offer you guys some great rewards, including computer wallpapers, free copies of the game, buttons, notebooks, t-shirts, posters, and some original art.
NOTE: if you are international, please consider adding to your donation in order to cover the international shipping charges which can be upwards of $20

For the buttons we are offering a voting program for anyone who reaches that level: there are six different designs to choose from and if you have donated enough to earn buttons you get to vote on which three you would like to see produced. Hey who knows, maybe if we reach above our goal we'll throw in all six.
Our highest reward sections include personalized drawings from two great artists: Noelle Stevenson and Heather Campbell.
Noelle's Work...

Heather's Work...

Please note that for the reward packages, the personalized drawing will be in pencil and the print will be in color.
These are two awesome artists and their work really speaks for itself. If you'd like to see more of either of them you can check out these links:

Thanks so much for taking the time to check out this page and we hope that you'll consider donating to us and telling your friends! But before we go…

If you guys can help us reach above and beyond our goal we really want to show you how much that means to us.
If we reach $6,000 then EVERY DONATOR of ANY LEVEL will receive a free copy of our first DLC pack after the game's release.
ANYTHING over $6,500 and everyone will receive an additional set of three buttons.
If we reach $10,000 or more then EVERY DONATOR of ANY LEVEL will receive a fine print of a full colored drawing from both Heather and Noelle, signed by everyone on the team.
FAQ

The biggest difference is the ability for multiple solutions. We spent a lot of time building a code system that allows the player to win in as many ways as they can think of. This means there is more than one solution, heck, we don't even know how many there are: if you think of one we didn't you not only still win but earn special achievements. Our testers really enjoyed this ability in the game.
We asked testers what frustrated them about games like cogs once we saw there there were similarities with our title and they said that they were irritated by the idea that they knew what they had to do but had to spend a lot of time getting there, in other words they could see the end but had to wade through rotations to reach to solution. Our game is about the mental: can you figure out a path. Once you have we didn't want to bog you down with that one square that's stuck in the corner and drives you insane: we wanted the mental challenge of find a way from beginning to end however you want to to be what the game was about, taking it away from a more traditional "tile-game".
