About this project

The Sign of Hope will be a photography & documentary project focusing on the homeless men and women of Seattle and more specifically, their signs.

We rarely give more than a glance to the signs of the homeless we pass on the street but they often say more than just "spare change?" If you look closely, you'll find the life stories of some ("Disabled War Vet"), the honest intentions of others ("Need a dollar for beer"), and the last hopes of the desperate ("Anything helps")

The Sign of Hope Project will follow two incredible photographers, Nathaniel Perales and Justin Edwards and documentary filmmaker Matt Longmire as they search the city of Seattle for homeless men and women to interview and film. This is their chance to say more than what fits on a piece of cardboard.

The money you give to help back this project will go to feeding the people interviewed and photographed. The photographs taken during the project will be printed large-scale for a two night gallery showing and will be sold as a silent auction to benefit the homeless. They will also be printed into a coffee table style book which will be available for purchase through the site.

The project will be filmed from start to finish and edited into a documentary which will be submitted to festivals as well as distributed online.

The rest of the funds from the Kickstarter backers will go to renting the gallery space, marketing the event, and printing of the books and prints.

Help us tell the stories of those who don't have a voice. It's easy to judge a book by it's cover but it's time to open the book to see what's really inside.
