This documentary production will inform the world about a new process to repopulate the oceans with living coral reefs.

The purpose of our film is to document the historical re-construction of the world's coral reefs.

Leading marine biologists/scientists in Florida have created new bio-technologies that can save these priceless wonders of nature. This vital information will be highlighted in a one-hour documentary that can be viewed worldwide.

Progress so far: Archival footage of the different locations to be restored has already been recovered for this film. Other current NOAA reef restoration efforts filmed this spring in Florida (March 2012) are available for this documentary as well. Having this footage available for use in our film will make it unique, considering the popularity of the subject matter among scientists and filmmakers worldwide.  Our production team is ready to hit the decks and join the scientists underwater as they plant 30,000 coral branches back into the ocean.

As a contributor of $100 or more, you are invited to join us in this wonderful underwater adventure into the Atlantic Ocean from Ft. Lauderdale south past Key West to the Dry Tortugas, and into the US Virgin Islands. Or, if you prefer, view the coral reefs through a Glass Bottom Boat in the Florida Keys.

FAQ

  • Coral reefs are the thriving cities of the underwater world. Without them there would be no food, no refuge for the millions of fish to live and feed, and nowhere to provide a safe underwater city for millions of other organisms. Wherever coral reefs are destroyed or significantly harmed, there is an imbalance created in the supply of fish and other living organisms.

The technology developed over the past 40 years is vital to the future of our oceans and inhabitants.   Now an option is available, using modern techniques, to help restore them, rebuild them, and simply .... bring them back.    This film will conclusively provide a clear blueprint for saving the coral reefs.

  • Coral reefs have often been called the "rain forests of the sea", they are found in marine enviroments with few nutrients.

Although they only comprise 0.1% of the world's ocean surface they support 25%  of all the marine species of organisms with abundant food and protection for their complex colonies of tiny animals.  Coral reefs are also invaluable to tourism, the world's ocean fisheries, and even protection for the shorelines of islands and continents, since they take the brunt of many hurricanes and other severe ocean events.  It has been estimated that coral reefs have a net worth of $375 billion dollars annually, a good reason to make sure they are preserved and renewed when necessary.

Because coral reef ecosystems are so fragile they are extremely sensitive to urban and agricultural runoff, pollution from numerous sources, temperature and climate change.  Once they have been damaged it may take decades for them to naturally recover. However, with the new techniques explored in this documentary, coral reefs will be capable with the help of man, to be restored and recover more quickly and successfully.
