i've had my urbio for a while ($200 kickstarter reward kit), but i just started to work on the installation. if i lay out a 1x3 grid of plates on top of the template/poster, it seems clear that the template is printed at too small of a scale. someone else below seems to have noted this as well so i guess it's not just me.
3 brackets/plates pushed together tightly measure 30+1/16 inches long, but the three dotted outlines on template (even including the little dotted tab) measure only 29 13/16 inches long. you can also hold two brackets against the poster, aligned to one of the interior left-to-right-running dotted lines and see that neither the bracket outline nor the mounting holes line up properly.
it's hard to guess what might have gone wrong with the poster. it seems to be about 1% too small. i note, however, that there is an unprinted border, which is also about 1% of the total poster length. coincidence? maybe, but i though i'd mention it.
also, while it's hard to say given whatever other error(s) may be in play, it also seems there is no tolerance added to the template to account for the fact that the plates seem (at least sometimes) to be *very slightly* (<1/64 of an inch per plate) larger than the nominal bracket size. perhaps this is due to the white coating, very tiny bends in the edge of the plate, or simple manufacturing variations.

Received my kit here in Montreal, Canada, this morning.
Looks good!
Creator Michael Goldenberg on May 14, 2012
I still haven't received my package or even the email from mega gps with confirmation info, can someone please update me on my specific status please?
Creator Will Oltman on May 11, 2012
I had similar difficulties as Div3r5ity connecting two pots back to back even using the included pucks. It works... okay... however it seems that the puck steel thickness perhaps isn't thick enough to overcome the repelling magnets embedded in the pots.
Another thing I noticed (and perhaps this was only with the poster included in my box) that the hole pattern on the printed (1:1) poster was slightly off from the plastic bracket. You don't want your customers perforating their walls needlessly... luckily I spotted this before I began drilling.
the products look pretty good, some of the plastic has flow/swirl marks in the plastic and the parting line on the cups could be a little cleaner... these are some things you may wish to discuss with your vendor.
overall I'm pleased though... good luck with your company
Creator Urbio on May 9, 2012
@Rob Dahl - Thanks for sending us the photos. We are looking into how the packaged was damaged that much. We will keep you posted.
Creator Urbio on May 9, 2012
@Div3r5ity - If you use the wall puck that was included, you can attach two different pots to each side of the puck, which connects them. Try it out!
Creator Div3r5ity on May 9, 2012
on the video it says you can attach the pots to each other and set on desk. has anyone be able to do this because my pots wont attach.
Creator Div3r5ity on May 9, 2012
@rob dahl did you get the $200 large wall mount kit? can you verify what you got in the box? was it what was promised or more items?
Creator Rob Dahl on May 8, 2012
Sadly, I received my shipment today.
The box was received open by the USPS and retaped Label marked as such. But not after damage to several of the plates (scratched and dented) and 3 cups where broken and just thrown in. The installations screws where loose in the box as well. Did not count them, but assume there are some missing as well. There is only 1 metal screw for a lot of wall plugs. There are only 4 magnets.
The cardboard box (was very thin) for shipping a large mount kit) was torn down the seams like the box was thrown or just dropped. Suggest rethinking your packaging strategy.
I hope that your get the shipping stuff down.
Creator Holly Harris on May 7, 2012
Finally got my Urbio...and with additional product, as promised, for the delays in production/shipping. Bummer it took so long to arrive but it shows integrity that at least they were transparent about delays and did something to make it right. Imagine the pressure of starting a business and having 818 opinionated bosses to report to. I bet whatever frustration backers felt isn't nearly what the Urbio team felt. Wishing Urbio more success moving forward.
Creator Ernest Liu on April 7, 2012
@Misty: Well then, let's hope the Urbio team can pull through and get you friend her (or his) Christmas present soon!
Creator Misty on April 6, 2012
Lol Ernie.. Just saw your comment. I try to avoid this page as much as possible so as to avoid more disappointment ....I purchased this $200 urbio garden as a gift for someone.... For christmas 2011. No, im not in any great need for "shiny new things" as you sputtered out. I do look like an arse telling that person "your gift is coming"...for 4 months now.....hopefully they will have it by Christmas 2012.
Creator Will Oltman on March 27, 2012

Thanks for taking time to do it right. I the pathway of great design orients firms that have frustrated many as they got the product right before release, like apple.
Creator Jess Zimbabwe on March 22, 2012
Ewww. That earthbox on amazon is ugly!
Creator Ernest Liu on March 7, 2012
@clwaller: My comment was clearly directed towards those who jumped into the pledge to "buy pretty shiny things." Some quick, trivial deduction of the existing comments will reveal that most frustrated backers are concerned about getting their goods.
So no, I am not "overreacting" when supporters make inquiries for updates, since I do the same. And pardon me for being so frank, but I found it necessary to make it clear that Kickstarter is not an online mall. Lastly, it is probably wise to note that your interest in marketing studies are not universally held by all backers.
Creator clwaller on March 7, 2012
It's not buying one off Amazon. It is showing that the competition for this product is growing. It's okay not to be first to market if you have a better product. But West Elm put a pricey one out. Amazon is carrying a cheaper one. How much market is there? I would like to see the marketing studies, how delays changed those, what share is anticipated now. I think you may be overreacting to anyone who asks questions about the business, the product, or it's marketing plan. Iwe come to Kickstarter to see those insights, not to buy pretty shiny things. So who's the fired up one? That would be you.
Creator Ernest Liu on March 3, 2012
It is silly to see individuals getting so fired up about not having their products yet. Seriously - if you were so eager to get some wall-mounted pots, why did you come to Kickstarter? Go ahead and buy one off Amazon with your fancy 2 day shipping. If you pledge to a Kickstarter project solely for the backer incentive, then YOU are an epic fail. I suppose this properly summarizes my response to your aggravation: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Facepalm
Urbio Team, thanks for taking the proper amount of time to ensure we end up with quality items!

I can't believe the amount of whining around such a simple and straightforward issue... designing and PRODUCING a quality product takes TIME!
GO URBIO TEAM!!!! Please, don't rush it. Not mine, at least... :))
Creator Misty on February 9, 2012
In a world surrounded by Fed ex, Amazon 2 day shipping and the "have to have it now mentality", you all are an epic fail. Had your 818 backers known when contributing that they would not receive their product until ONE YEAR LATER, you would probably have 3 backers...and those would be your parents. A version of this product is already being distributed and sold at major stores all over the US. And guess what, you can get it in two days shipping! Not a year! Again, I do understand its a start up, but all the kickstarters I have supported, months after you, have already built, created and shipped the products out. In a year, you could have built a factory from ground up in America and had your products distributed by now. Instead of sending us updates with broken promises from China, don't let us know when its arriving, because its obvious, you guys are not really sure, nor confident. This aggravation is not worth an "extra shorty pot".
Creator josh cramer on February 7, 2012
I'd like to believe i'll receive my product in April/May but somehow I highly doubt it. Still trying to be hopeful.
Creator Jess Zimbabwe on January 31, 2012
Happy new year. Hope all is going well with Urbio.
Creator Div3r5ity on January 20, 2012
so how many extra shorty pots will the $200 backer pledge get?
Creator Misty on January 18, 2012
Before the holidays. Before Christmas. Sometime in February. Sometime in April. I understand this is a startup and many mistakes are happening. However don't promise anything if you don't have an accurate eta. It's very frustrating. And in the real world it's a fantastic way to loose all your investors/ supporters.
Creator Urbio on January 17, 2012
Absolutely correct Spencer... thank you for the support! We just received our delivery date last Friday when we placed our first production order. It all comes down to product quality. As designers and businessmen, it was our highest priority to assure that the product you receive will exceed your expectations. It took us round after round of product samples to achieve the quality we required. We've arrived and now with you, we're looking forward to receiving our first production parts and shipping them to all of you in April! Yes, it took us longer than we expected, but the product quality we've achieved is worth it!
Beau.
Creator spencer chang on January 17, 2012
I want to leave a note of encouragement. Good job on raising so much money and getting things off the start. For those that are angry with the time and lack of news, they must not be aware of how long these development process take. when backing, you are not buying from an established store, you are helping someone start a company and develop a product. and for RUSS SCHMITT if the project was funded in May 10 2011 how have u backed it for a year already?
Creator JUAN MANUEL BARRERA on January 17, 2012
We backed this project since MAY, and we still have no deadline for the delivery, nothing is clear in this process, we have hear many stories from URBIO, but none of them end up being true. I´m still waitting for the "detailed Urbio update is our #1 priority this week! " posted on January 3??? I think that giving out the REAL information will give us an idea on where are we standing with this project, specially for us the international buyers!! Please give us the truth, we have been waitting for this product like 8 months, an we want answers.
Creator Russ Schmitt on January 15, 2012
I think I have learned my lesson with my backing of projects on here. Like this one Have Yet to see anything in the year I have backed projects.
Creator Will Oltman on January 12, 2012
The project has been dragging on for so long that people may already be knocking you off. Just saw these in the new West Elm catalog which has a striking similar form factor to your skinny pots.

", we've hit a few speed bumps, such as manufacturing, magnets, engineering and now, funding.."
Wow -- that's some detail for your backers. How about a real update now that it's 8 months with nothing but marketing updates -- nothing of substance.
Creator Urbio on January 3, 2012
Hey Kickstarters,
A detailed Urbio update is our #1 priority this week!
We'll be discussing timeline, manufacturing, distribution and a sweet bonus for your patience. As you can imagine, we've hit a few speed bumps, such as manufacturing, magnets, engineering and now, funding... but we're pushing along! Excitement and awareness is growing for Urbio as it's seen publication in Entrepreneur Magazine, InTouch and a few others. Pre-orders are still being accepted on our website and continue to pour in. That's all good news, but we want you to know that our kickstarter supporters are our top priority and will be receiving the very first production run of Urbio!!!
We're looking to place our initial production order within the next two weeks. The first order will fulfill our kickstarter.com orders and myurbio.com pre-orders up to date. Once ordered, we can expect to see product from our manufacturer within 60 days of placement.
For those looking to purchase more product, the best way to order Urbio is to pre-order our products on www.myurbio.com.
Thank you for your patience! Like you, I have the perfect spot picked out for Urbio and I can't wait to grow my vertical garden.
As a token of our appreciation, we'll be offering a "thank you" bonus to our kickstarter backers. What would you like to receive? Product? Gift card on future Urbio products? What are your ideas? We'll do what we can... You can post comments here or reach us at: info@myurbio.com
Thank you!
Beau and the Urbio Team.
Creator c c on December 29, 2011
and with that new press, shouldn't we get an update on where the project is?!!
Creator Chris Hardeman on December 27, 2011
Sabrina Soto just did you guys right again and highlighted the Urbio in the latest issue of In Touch Magazine.
Creator Brian Connelly on December 27, 2011
I have blasted a couple of other projects for similar issues --- This project showed a lot of promise from the start -- but from there it just dropped. This project is now on my list of failed projects. We are not getting anything of value for our contributions -- we were supposed to be able to follow the process of the company -- instead we get nothing.
I would say this project has been the source of some major disappointment.
Creator Tyler Pew on December 17, 2011
Jason C.
You put it perfectly!
Just checking to see if Urbio team is still around?
Would love to have a ETA.
Thanks
Creator Jason Caldeira on December 15, 2011
*tap tap tap* This thing on? Other projects I've backed have been blasted for their lack of updates, and they're updating on a considerably greater frequency than you guys. It's time to step it up and let us know where our money went. Thanks.
Creator Misty on December 1, 2011
so these will not be arriving before the holidays as planned right? Is the new ETA now February?!?!
Creator JUAN MANUEL BARRERA on November 16, 2011
It has been a long time with no updates!! when are you shipping URBIO???
Creator Brian Connelly on November 15, 2011
Updates? It's time.
Creator sinerge on October 19, 2011
Based on update #7 this project is behind schedule. What's the new ETA? I've got any empty wall I've been waiting to fill.
Creator Anders Minken on October 3, 2011
Dear Urbio Team! For sure I don't mind waiting if that is what it takes. It's silence I don't like. Following you guys in work, success and occasional difficulties is part of the fun for us backers - and gives the final result an added value for us. Please update? Please!
Creator allisonrusso on September 25, 2011
When will urbio be sent?
Creator Jeff on August 26, 2011
Any updates?
Creator Jeff on June 2, 2011
Were you going to get our addresses and ask which pots we wanted?
Creator Stefanie on May 31, 2011
When are you guys planning on sending out your survey? I was really looking forward to this project?
Creator Urbio on May 9, 2011
Ernest,
We've designed a really fun instructional booklet that folds out into a super cool poster! It'll be included in all kickstarter orders :) 17 hours remaining... spread the word!
Creator Ernest Liu on May 9, 2011
Do you guys plan on including any sort of booklet or pamphlet for plant suggestions? The ones you've used for the demo look great!
Creator Urbio on May 6, 2011
Thanks for spreading the word!!!
Creator Urbio on May 6, 2011
Sinerge,
Thanks you so much for your pledge! As we are still in negotiation with our manufacturer, we still do not have final pricing. One of our goals is for Urbio to be attainable to most consumers and we will continue to strive to keep the cost as low as we can, while maintaining product integrity and trusty magnetics.
