Hello wonderful, patient backers!
If you only gave a small amount of money, I suppose it's possible that you've already forgotten what it was you helped me do last year, so I'll remind you. In July 2012, thanks entirely to support from the people receiving this update, I was able to take an entire month off of paying work and write my novel. My stated goal was to complete the entire first draft during that time. While I did make an enormous amount of progress, finishing the entire book in one month proved to be a little too ambitious even for me. Once real life started up again, progress on the writing was significantly slowed.
That said, I have never stopped working on the book and I am proud to announce that at 11:30pm last night, I wrote the final words into draft 1 of For God Took Him (title still not final).
As many of you know, I have been bringing the book, chapter by chapter, to my weekly writers' group as I have been working on it. Because I have been receiving feedback from other talented and creative people every step of the way, I already have detailed notes on what I can improve for draft two. My hope is that this speeds the process up enough to allow me to get the book out without too much more delay. Those of you who have chosen backer rewards will be getting them as soon as possible. For a number of technical reasons, they all need to be prepped at once, so even the ones that did not depend upon a finished draft still haven't been sent. You should receive a questionnaire for where to send your rewards in the next two weeks.
There are still two things I am in need of in order to help me get this finished.
- Beta readers - even though I have gotten notes by bringing the book piecemeal to the writers' group, I still would like a few people with fresh eyes to read the draft in its entirety. I know you all want to read the book, but for purposes of beta reading, please do not volunteer unless you can commit to finishing it and getting notes back to me very quickly (one week turnaround preferred.)
- Cover artist - The one expense I forgot to raise money for was a cover artist. My wife and I will be covering this cost ourselves, so it will be a paid gig, but it won't pay a whole lot. If you or anyone you know is interested, please contact me.
That is all, friends! I begin this very day on revisions. Thank you all again so much for your support and your patience.
