In this Biblically-inspired epic, a man living in the pre-flood world of the book of Genesis refuses to accept the inevitable.
After his village is attacked and his mother and brother are brutally killed by a hideous creature, Enoch asks the question nobody asks.
"Can death be stopped?"
In so doing, he attracts the attention of God Himself, who sends Enoch on a quest to find his answer.
Before he knows what has happened, Enoch is forging his way across an ancient world of monsters, giants, sprawling cities and enormous jungles. In his travels, he confronts a four-hundred-year-old prophecy and countless wonders magical, natural, man-made and miraculous.
I have been working on this novel for about four years. In that time I've collected piles of research, fully plotted my story and character arcs, done many pieces of concept art, both computed-generated and hand-drawn, created detailed world maps and padded four notebooks with jots and scribbles. This thing is ready to fire out of me like a bullet, but between my job as a web designer, getting married and having a son, I have only completed eleven chapters (91 single spaced pages). I expect the finished product to be more than three times that long.
To remedy this situation, I would like to take a full month (July 2012) off of my regular jobs to just write for 40 hours a week. In that time I will finish the first draft of the novel, and afterwards I will get notes and comments from copy editors (who are donating their time) before moving on to self-publishing.
In order to do this, I need financial backing to cover the expenses I would be responsible for if I were working. Additionally, I will want to compensate my mother for watching my son full-time for an entire month (as I work from home, I am usually his caretaker).
Cost breakdown:
Home expenses (including food, rent, utilities and student loan payment ): $1500
Child care cost ($5/hr for four weeks): $800
Printing manuscripts, postcards, etc: $200
Hardcover printing: $500
Shipping costs: $500
Total: $3500
Any additional money raised will go into improving the final product of the book in print.
