About this project

The Polaris Players are a group of third through sixth graders at Polaris Charter Academy who dedicate after-school hours to produce shows for their community under the direction of their Drama Teacher, Georgette Verdin and Polaris' Special Education Teacher, Elizabeth DiPrima. This winter, the Polaris Players will mount ALICE IN WONDERLAND by Lewis Carroll, adapted for the stage by Kathryn Shultz Miller. These twenty-four dedicated students have been chosen to give the gift of live theatre to their community. They will rehearse nearly sixty hours between September and opening night, which is Dec. 15th. 2011 at 6:30 p.m. We need money for costumes, props, and lighting rental to help turn our gym into a "Wonderland" our community will not soon forget.

Georgette Verdin

Has not connected their Facebook account.

Georgette Verdin fancies herself equal parts performer and teaching artist. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre Performance from McNeese State University in sleepy Lake Charles, La. Her teaching career began in New Orleans, La in 2006 where she taught middle school theatre to grades sixth, seventh, and eighth while working on an MFA in Acting at the University of New Orleans. In 2009 she decided to take a leap of faith and relocate to Chicago hoping to benefit from a larger, more viable theatre scene. Since beginning at Polaris Charter Academy in 2009 she has successfully established the Drama Program and the resident acting company, the Polaris Players. Together they have successfully produced four shows, including Shakespeare's ROMEO & JULIET, as well as three originals written collaboratively with students. Having herself found the healing power of theatre in sixth grade, Georgette has never forgotten how it shaped the remainder of her adolescent life. She hopes that her work with the Players will translate and they too can be embraced by that very same healing power.
