X2 is a program of two new dances by Mark Haim for a company of fourteen performers at Seattle's prestigious On The Boards Theater.
I am so excited to be presenting a new program, X2 (Times Two), at On The Boards—Seattle’s foremost venue for contemporary performance—as part of its Northwest Artists Series, this March 29- April 1, 2012. Five years ago, and almost to the day, OTB NW Artists Series presented my full-evening solo, The Goldberg Variations, restaged on 5 talented local performers to sold-out houses and great reviews. I am hoping for a similar experience!
X2 is a diptych of two large dances, each with its own distinctive approach to time. The first work, This Land Is Your Land, is a continual, repetitively-morphing saga of our time, with a large quantity of Starbucks cups, cell phones, guns, and a garbage can for 13 performers. It premiered in June 2010 as a work in progress at OTB’s NW New Works Festival. Since then, I have been expanding it while staging it at the American Dance Festival, East Carolina University and for a professional company (Yabin and Her Friends) in Beijing, China.
The second work, still untitled and for seven performers, will have its world premiere on March 29 and is shaping up to create a vivid contrast to This Land Is Your Land. For this work, I am collaborating with LILIENTHAL/ZAMORA (production designer Etta Lilienthal and lighting designer Ben Zamora (www.lilienthalzamora.com) as well as the wise and well-loved Lucia Neare (www.lucianeare.org) as dramaturg.
The performers are: Beth Graczyk, Jessica Jobaris, Jody Kuehner, Sruti Desai, Karn Junkinsmith, Jennifer Salk, Jess Klein, Tova Eisner, Jim Kent, Jurg Koch, Hendri Walujo, Mark Ferrin, TJ Elston and BRACE.
On The Boards has secured funds through the National Endowment for the Arts to produce the season as well as offering a substantial rehearsal space residency. These funds will cover the costs of minimal performance and production fees (it’s a large group!). However, I still need to raise money to cover expenses for a professional video recording, costumes, and props (there are a lot of cups and guns!!!!).
With this in mind, I am asking you to make a contribution towards this project. Any amount you can contribute would greatly help us.
Have a question? If the info above doesn't help, you can ask the project creator directly.
