A passionate sonic adventure with uncommon jazz ensemble & trio settings – new pieces & seldom heard gems in fresh settings.

Hello Everybody!

Funding Note: **We STILL welcome and need backers. Although the initial kickstarter funding goal we had to set when we began was met wonderfully early, and we are indeed thrilled and grateful that we will be funded at all, we are, in truth, still in need of the support of backers for this project. That is because, out of caution, we had set that initial amount beneath the actual funds needed, and all future contributions will continue to be directly applied toward the balance of the printing costs and other fees related to manufacture and release of 'Spirals and Lines'.**

I am excited to present my latest CD to all of you in the hope that you will join me in bringing this creation to fruition.

The CD was inspired by two ideas: one was a musical challenge to myself, and the other conceptual.

First, I set out to do a CD with plenty of groove and feel but no bass (don't get me wrong - I love bass, just a challenge) as well as one in which I could experiment with voice and brass combinations.

The second inspiration for this CD came from my love of history, my reverence for time, my wondering and musing about society and the human condition, and my deep respect and love for the American vision that my second generation immigrant parents worked to build, as well as the struggles and changes they saw in their lifetime. This CD is dedicated to my recently departed mother and uncle, who gave me the gift of their wisdom, their love for humanity, and their passion for art and music.

'Spirals and Lines' is a collection of nine songs: three of my completely new compositions with brass ensembles, one where I rework a traditional piece, and five of my new settings for tunes not often heard; all my own arrangements.

I can't wait to share this music with all of you! Please consider contributing whatever you can. Every little bit helps. Thank you for your time, consideration and generosity!

Warmly;

Kaylé Brecher

Another Opinion:

Spirals and Lines is a consistently colorful and intriguing set by the very talented singer-arranger-composer Kayle Brecher. Exploring the sound of brass with voice in the unique ensembles, she also utilizes the remarkable sousaphonist Jimmy Parker, guitar, piano and drums but no string bassist or reeds. Performing sophisticated and often-political lyrics that are universal and topical, Ms. Brecher displays a highly expressive voice with a wide range, a deep understanding of the lyrics and a joyful scatting style. This is a CD that certainly rewards repeated listening . There can be no doubt, after one listen to Spirals and Lines, that this is a major statement from a powerful singer-arranger-composer, one who deserves to be heard many times." -----------------Scott Yanow, contributor to major jazz publications including Jazz Times, Jazziz and Downbeat, and author/jazz historian

SHORT INTRODUCTORY BIO:

Imaginative, versatile and eclectic, Kaylé Brecher, (pronounced KaylA BrecKer), has performed in settings ranging from traditional jazz through bop, free jazz and experimental music as well as other genres.

 Kaylé's musical concepts embrace the total musical statement in each piece. The whole ensemble becomes part of her personal expression and the settings as well as choice of instruments and their carefully chosen players augment the desired mood of each composition or arrangement, as well as the meaning of any lyric which Kaylé then delivers with masterful phrasing and deep interpretation.

She knits and weaves improvisation into the fabric of her music seamlessly rather than following formula, and presents us with complete expressive pictures that not only show off the improvisational skills of the musicians, but create cohesively expressed statements with everyone and everything integrated artfully into the whole. This is as true in her concepts for duets and trios as it is in the larger ensembles.
Kaylé's instrumental and compositional approach to singing leads to explorations of the mood, texture and style in each individual tune, which results in exciting variety.
