Songs about characters all sharing one thing: The End of the World. "Whistling While the End Is Near" by The Viking Progress

My name's Patrick Morales and in 2008 I worked on commercial fishing vessels collecting data for the National Marine Fisheries Service.  While working on two boats (The Viking and The Progress) I started writing a collection of songs about characters all experiencing the same thing: the end of the world.  The songs are less about the way the world is going and more about how I feel human beings would ultimately react when met with the idea of time's end.  The songs are vignettes written from the points of views of characters that serve as archetypes, (i.e., The Couple, The Scientist, The Captain, etc.). The album is being recorded at Pop Heart Studios with Suny Lyons producing and engineering the record.  He's a super talented guy who worked at Chase Park Studios (Drive By Truckers, Toro y Moi, Futurebirds, Deerhunter) for several years and has recorded numerous great projects (Hope For a Golden Summer, Pacific UV, Phosphorescent) at Pop Heart.  

What we've recorded so far sounds amazing and has guest players from several local acts including members of Venice Is Sinking, Powerkompany, Oryx and Crake, and even members of Neutral Milk Hotel and the E6 collective.


We're almost done but we need your help to finish mixing, mastering and pressing the record.  We're trying to raise 2500 dollars in order to finish the record and release it on March 20th.  2500 dollars is really only a fraction of the cost of the record but it will go so far in helping us complete this project.  It's something I've wanted to record ever since I stepped off The Viking for the last time all the way back in 2008.
