What is this mysterious piece of performance?
< the invisible draft > is a radio play silent movie. It is a multi-media theater piece inspired by Italo Calvino’s novel Invisible Cities. The seated audience is invited wander through the map of consciousness, riding the sine waves conducted by Our Man of the World and the Girl with a Backpack. The first full production will feature sound design by Jonah Rosenberg, voice talents of Matteo Paleoni and Briana Pozner, and animations by Lotte Marie Allen and Claire Moodey. Where and when will I be seeing it?
Downtown in New York! Theater for the New City, on First Ave between 9th and 10th St, has accepted < the invisible draft > as part of the 2011 Dream Up Festival. The Festival will be held from August 14th-September 4th and will feature over twenty original works.
What will my pledge be used for?
Set and props. $1900 The set design (modelled in the Scratch Night performance on May 10th) is made of giant, foldable maps. They will be hand-painted, rigged from curtain track, manipulated by a system of pulleys, and durable enough to withstand being hung, manipulated, and struck for each performance (Dream Up shows run in repertory, how cool!).
Projector rental. $600 Theater for the New City provides a basic lighting and sound kit, but cannot provide projectors to multi-media projects. Rental of a high resolution projector will make animations like this a saturating experience.
Festival fee. $500 Dream Up charges a festival fee to all productions to cover the cost of using the space, their staff, and promotion of each show in the festival.
