A dance that explores what happens when our private world falls apart and how we move beyond the stages of grief.
I am so very excited to present my piece, And the World Continues....in a shared show titled UNDERTOW on September 28th and 29th at the Christ Church Neighborhood House Theater in Philly. Although my fellow choreographers and I received a grant to cover the cost of renting the theater for our show, there are still many more expenses to cover!! And I need your help!! We have a hired a talented lighting designer and stage manager who needs to be paid for his extraordinary vision and hard work. Even more importantly, I want to be able to pay my dancers, the fabulous Lindsay Browning and Olive Prince, what they deserve, which is a LOT!!! Any contribution, NO MATTER HOW SMALL, will help me reach my fundraising goal and ensure that everyone gets paid for the amazing work that they do. I am extremely grateful to all of you for your support and friendship and hope that you can both donate to and attend this very special show.
My dance begins with a me, a woman with a broken heart and little hope. Borrowing imagery and inspiration from poetry and personal writing, myself and my collaborators (two of the most lusciously beautiful performers in Philadelphia) have constructed a highly physical dance that pulses with emotion. It is a dance about what happens when our private worlds collapse, how we move through the stages of grief and our most vulnerable moments to maybe and finally accept that we and everyone else are still here…. and that the world continues onward.
I want people to really hear, see and feel this dance- in essence, I want people to connect to the work. The clip below is a rehearsal draft of a duet between Lindsay and Olive.
We have made this piece by examining how feelings of sorrow, hopelessness, anger and resentment translate through the body. We also explore how the bonds of friendship and womanhood can unveil themselves amidst pain.
