We've launched an exciting new project of our own! Introducing the Kickstarter app for iPhone!

ACTS from the WOMB is a film that documents the trials, tribulations, fun and excitement of putting on a theater show in three weeks.

"You get to the core and the seeds fall or you throw them away because the core is not edible, its too much to take. What’s left and disregarded begins to rot, and go back into the soil from which it came, enriching the earth with what it knows from its life before. Fertilizing another tree, another chance to remain gloriously suspended in air and beautifully untouched for as long as possible. The reality of the apple becomes complex. What a curious fruit, a famed forbidden gem of our social digestion." -ACTS from the WOMB

WELCOME!

Hey there — ACTS from the WOMB Director, T. Bankolé, and Producer, Americkah Dee here. Thanks for taking the time to check out our film! We're so excited about this project and deeply appreciate that you've taken an interest. The time we spent filming in Brooklyn and NYC was one of the most exciting and rewarding experiences of our lives. We couldn't be happier with the friendships we made and the footage we collected, and it will be a huge thrill to share the finished movie with all of you, once it's complete. We're EXTREMELY grateful for your help bringing this film to life.

ABOUT THE FILM

ACTS from the WOMB is an independent feature length documentary about 15 women and one director's vision.  They had THREE WEEKS to put on a show. From auditions to curtains, the good and the bad. We filmed their entire journey. Now we need YOUR help to share our story with the world!

ABOUT THE PLAY

In a world where women need to justify their right to birth control, where teenage girls are bombarded with images from the media and left with no choice but to compare their bodies to the Photoshopped versions of what is supposed to be "perfect", very few things challenge and endorse these sorts of issues. Works of quality that are trying to challenge, empower, question and simply share the subtleties of the difference in the way women experience the current world; from politics to sexuality to relationships amongst themselves. ACTS from the WOMB touches with graciously raw dialogue, poetry, music and dance on such subjects. Rather than just share the woman’s perspective what it’s like to be a female in works like the “Vagina Monologues”, “ACTS from the Womb” questions the challenges involved in the intricate relationships and judgments women impose on themselves and the world around them. It sets a platform where a diverse audience can intimately ask themselves its involvement in all of these issues. It is important as proactive members from a modern global community to support and spread the word on such works of art, rather than let other people do the thinking for Nation that habitually tunes to “Gossip Girl” every Monday night.

ACTS From The WOMB (ACTS), a new stage production by Mugendai Entertainment, walks in the footsteps of great productions such as The Vagina Monologues and For Colored Girls. Created in appreciation and homage to my mother, ACTS is a collection of stories; performed by women as spoken word and monologue. These heartfelt testimonies are celebratory and uplifting, while addressing the personal challenges of womanhood. Each performance is accented with harmonious dance choreography and powerful music to touch the soul.

Following the successful blueprint established by The Vagina Monologues, and Russel Simmons' “Def Poets on Broadway”, ACTS will attract a broad base multicultural audience of women who are proven to support productions that are socially entertaining, while branding a message of personal empowerment. There is a huge window of opportunity awaiting the company that can harness the power of this demographic. ACTS’ compelling and market-driven theatrical content uniquely positions the production to ascertain viral prosperity and become the next off-broadway blockbuster. ACTS will not only target customary theatergoers but will also attract women advocacy, and as a result, will inevitably expand the brand and audience.

ACTS' premiere theatrical production opened at Free Candy in Brooklyn, New York on March 23-25, 2012, then Bowery Poetry Cafe on March 31 and April 8th. We are focused on packaging the live stage play as a nationwide tour, with more shows starting in NYC in June and then THE WORLD.

YOUR HELP MAKES A DIFFERENCE!

Our team has been preparing for this project for almost a year, and it's been a labor of love. Until now, we've been able to fund the entire cost of production on our own, and the good news is that 75% of the movie has already been shot. But as we shoot the last remaining shots and transition into the editing phase, we need your help to get us over the finish line.

You can help in a number of ways. First and foremost — by donating to this Kickstarter campaign. Just click the green “Back This Project” button in the upper right-hand corner. There are some other important ways you can help. The more people who are aware of our project, the better our chances of raising the necessary funds. By emailing your friends about the film, posting a link to this page on Facebook, or spreading word on Twitter, you'll be giving us crucial, valuable support. Please help us reach as many people as possible!

Email us if you have any problems or questions. Your contribution will make the film's completion possible, and as thanks for your generosity, we'll hook you up with some awesome and unique prizes. Because theater lovers are scattered around the world, we would like to remind you that anyone can donate. The rewards will be shipped to wherever you live. Your support will go directly toward:

  • Paying Our Crew
  • Paying Our Editor
  • Purchasing Hard Drives
  • Music Licensing Fees
  • Color/Sound Correction
  • Other Post-Production Costs
  • Film Festival Fees
  • ACTS from the WOMB Merchandise

What is our Kickstarter goal?

We’re trying to be conservative, so we’ve set our goal at $5,000. You might be scratching your heads and asking why such a low figure.  Honestly, we would like to raise at least $50,000 because all of the money will go towards making the film that much better. There are a lot of things we’d like to do if we had the funds, there’s no question about that. We just like to have a grounded approach and fly a little higher if we exceed our goals. Every bit helps.

How much is shipping?

Absolutely nothing, zero--we'll take care of the costs. Whether you live in Portland, Oregon, Paris or Japan- we'll ship it there!  But if you’d like us to send it through a black hole and into another dimension with FedEx, then we’ll have to arrange that separately.

How do I follow the project?

When we initially launched the project, we had thought about making special footage available to anyone that supports the film. We’ve decided that it would be better to use Social Media to connect and share, therefore in the future—all our behind the scenes photos, audios and thoughts, will be freely shared to all our followers on Facebook, Twitter and Youtube. No need to make a donation to gain access.

If I become Associate Producer, how will we find out about the festivals to attend as part of your rewards program?

We’ll contact you personally. We’ve attended a ton of them in the past, so we will be able to give you the full low down after we’ve had a chance to talk to you.

How can I contact you?
