About this project

If you are a fan of rock and roll, you probably have heard of Asbury Park thanks to either Bruce Springsteen or The Stone Pony, but the town's history goes much farther than that. In "Beyond The Palace", I will take you through the city's long and illustrious music history from the Upstage Club where musicians like Bruce Springsteen, Billy Chinnock, David Sancious, Little Steven and Southside Johnny used to jam all night to early clubs like The Student Prince and Sunshine In; from the legendary Stone Pony and Fastlane to alternative clubs like the Green Parrot, T-Birds Cafe and The Saint.

"Beyond the Palace" takes you inside the scene like never before. You'll hear the stories right from the artists themselves. It's a look at drugs, sex and booze; bands that made it big, artists on the rise, and those that just missed the mark. It brings you inside the music industry from how bands fight to get signed to how things can fall apart overnight. But most of all, it shows how artists don't have to sell millions of records to be remembered.

In addition to the interviews, the book contains over 100 rare or never-before-seen photographs of the artists and Asbury Park as it has changed over the years.

What The Money Raised Is For
Funding will pay for printing costs as well as royalties for the use of the photographs throughout the book. The actual book will be a vastly updated version of a book originally published in 2003 in paperback. This edition will include additional interviews, more photographs, and be released in hardcover.
