Update #22: Card Preview

Posted on May 15

The Solar Circuit files are ready to be sent to the printers! I'm currently in the process of finalizing the proofing and manufacturing process, but the presses should be pressing very soon!

This week's preview is a few of the prototype map tile cards. The images came out a bit darker than the final product from being printed on a home printer, and I can assure you that mechanical cutters can cut a much straighter edge than I can, but this should give you an idea of what the finished cards will look like with the game information included.

Is the layout of the cards final? I like big fonts since they are easy to read. A lot of art is covered by the rules on some of the cards. Maybe 30-40% transparent red/black(gray) background would make the art stand out more - and still allow white font to show through?

Update #21: Environment Art - Space Station Tunnel

Posted on April 30

This week I'm happy to show off the Space Station Tunnel, an obstacle inspired by the interior of a certain half-finished (but fully operational) battle station. Something about watching those fighters bounce down the engineering spaces always stuck with me, and it was that feeling of desperately fighting for control after caroming off a wall that I wanted to build into Solar Circuit Racing. A few Space Station Tunnels in a row can really do a number on your wings if you're not careful. Enjoy!

Update #20: Racer Art - P93 Police Interceptor

Posted on April 9

I have to admit I wasn't planning on showing a preview of the Kickstarter bonus racer, but the P93 Police Interceptor came out too fantastic not to share. The P93 is flown by an undercover cop, who, with the help of a fabricated problem with internal affairs, "went rogue" and started racing in the misappropriated cruiser in an attempt to keep tabs on the Circuits. The ship isn't particularly fast, but carries a tractor beam and advanced targeting systems to level the playing field. Enjoy!

      That is *mighty* cool!

Update #19: Environment Art - Check Gate

Posted on April 2

Each race begins and ends with the Check Gate, a large ring that racers have to thread through. Pilots who misjudge the position will smash into the sides, taking damage to their wings, and may or may not bounce across the finish line. Taking a more careful approach minimizes your chances of hitting the gate, but makes you an easy target for the other racers.

We are very close to being able to send everything off to the printers. With the unprinted samples and die line templates in hand, the layout for the box art is being finalized. I'm very excited to be able to show a small scale mockup of the final package! More previews to come!

Very cool, Tyler! Looking forward to "lift off"!

Update #18: Environment Art - Pit Station

Posted on March 19

When your ship gets damaged to the point that it has trouble proceeding (and it will!), you can dock in the pit station to receive the needed repairs. The pit station also handles reloading ammunition based weapons. Every course will have at least one pit station, so you'll always be able to get back into the race, even if your ship has been shot to pieces or you've smashed a wing to dust against an obstacle.

I'm also very happy to be able to show you the unprinted samples I received from the manufacturer. Everything that will be in the final box is included here, just without any ink. The paper quality is great, and the dry erase coating on the cards works perfectly. The marker even includes a little eraser built into the cap!
