A feature doc about a commercial director facing foreclosure, opening his house for the last 28 days as a creative living / workspace for artists.

"I'm at a time in my life where I've lost everything and I've lost nothing. My goal is to live a life as a positive example for my kids in finally doing what I love. This is an experiment to finish the things I've always wanted to finish, collaborate with people I've always wanted to collaborate with and ultimately gain insight into myself. One day I was sitting in the empty house after my wife moved out and I realized my life has become the Talking Heads song. How did we get here and where do we go? As American's we've been sold a bill of goods, and I've helped sell it."

On May 28th, 2010 Charles Wittenmeier will be forced to foreclose on his one of a kind historical 3 story home. On May 1st, he will be opening it as a creative living / work space for artists and musicians. For 28 days, the artists and musicians will create music, art and conversation. Each artist will come with at least one idea of a project they would like to accomplish over the 28 days using the shared resources and talents of the group. Their work will be assembled in a book, an album, and a feature length film — all of which examine the lessons of the past and the reality of the future. The house will be set up to maximize its creative potential: recording studio, art spaces, quiet writing nooks, and creative sleeping arrangements. Cross medium collaborations are encouraged, as well as diversity in the skill level and experience of the artists themselves. The people who pass through the house will put a collective face on these tumultuous times. There’s a mountain of untapped potential in America, building pressure, and held back only by our staring in the mirror. This is an opportunity to manifest this potential in an environment that
is fleeting, thus motivating.

Charles has been directing commercials for the past 20 years. He created his first spot at age 21, and only two years later joined the Directors Guild of America. By 25, he found himself in a life of luxury with a career that would profoundly affect the aesthetic of TV advertising in the 90’s. After 9/11, the advertising industry tanked and so did his career. In 2003, he retreated from Hollywood to Portland OR, buying a one of a kind historic home on Mt. Tabor in the hopes of re-inventing himself and his career. Today in 2010, he faces a looming bankruptcy, a financial lawsuit, split custody, and a half-filled house soon to be foreclosed. The departure will be the first time Charles is forced to confront the reality of the future he has been avoiding.

The money we raise will be used for transportation of artists to Portland, food to feed everyone, hard drives and CF cards for all the footage, and other various art supplies.
