And the winner is. . .
First, we want to thank everyone for your support, your patience and your interesting debates on the shadowrun.com forums. It was great to listen to y'all discuss why you voted for the city you did!
It was also great to interact with you on the forums, in private messages, on Facebook, on Kickstarter mail--everywhere we could find you. The Shadowrun Community is full of great people!
Obviously, there were some technical issues with our survey tool--which is why we're investigating a new survey tool! We want to make sure that when we go to you with the BIG survey for your swag that we've got a smooth system that gets you your swag!
But that's just productiony stuff. Let's talk about the game!!!
It was a hard-fought battle but as any geek can tell you, There Can Be Only One. . .
. . . and that's BERLIN!
That's right, Berlin came from behind and swept past Hong Kong, taking it's place as the second city in Shadowrun Returns.
Congratulations to EVERYONE who participated in the voting (and the attempts at swaying the vote). It's really a joy to make this game for you!
Talk to you soon!

Though I'm sure the developers would have made HK great, it's overused in games today, especially games of this nature. I'm glad they went with Berlin and can't wait to see what they do with it!
Creator Elton Chen on June 2, 2012
Hong Kong would have been awesome. In such a small city, there could be so much content.

I never got the first nor the second survey anywhere in my e-mail folders, spam or otherwise. The survey service that was used sucks. :(
Creator Alluvian_Est-Endrati on May 25, 2012
Dang, my email about the voting ended up in my spam folder and I didn't get my vote in before the tally was counted. Gave a very late vote for Hong Kong anyways. Ahh well.
Creator Eric Lemay on May 25, 2012
I wanted Chicago too. I was surprise to see it was the last one. But Berlin will be great too! What the heck, ALL the city would have been great!
Creator Jon Abbott on May 24, 2012
Yes. Bug City had my vote initially but I am fully behind the Berlin decision. Back in the day when Shadowrun was new, our fellow runners in Deutchland really kept the game alive with lots of fan based tech and stories. Good to see the Good Karma returned in kind all these years later!
Creator Chris Decker on May 24, 2012
I'm still disappointed that Chicago didn't win to begin with. I wanted Bug City really badly. :(
Creator Alex T Guerrero on May 24, 2012
Im a bit depress. I was so busy that I forgot to vote, also I thought that Hong Kong was something that was going to win easy. Though Hong Kong is something you would expect to be something that over done, i dont think it really is because it hardly touch upon in video game form. In fact im really disappointed at the way they portrayed cyberpunk in asian setting. I was hoping that we would see a re-envisioning of asian cyberpunk. Asian would have given us a chance to see thing that we would never had saw before. Have us fight thing and face technology that completly different from what we are used to.
Im sure that the developer will have a interesting vison for Berlin.
Im hoping for may be a expansion pack or DLC that take use to other different city.
Creator Garry Cotton on May 24, 2012
Personally, I'm glad it wasn't Hong Kong: yeah, it's a great city for this kind of genre, but it's SO overdone in video-games these days that it's nice to go somewhere different.
Creator Lloyd McCarthy on May 24, 2012
Yeah they need to fix the survey thing. I got the first survey, but not the runoff.
Creator Lee Sweeney on May 24, 2012
Well from the non-adult responses, I think this will be the last vote,
Why would the devs want to deal with this crowd ever again.
Also remember we are supposed to get Mod tools, so
"More Seattle, and now More Berlin" can be done, also other cities can be started as well.
Glad they did not do a vote on the engine, can you imagine how much crying there would be?
Creator Matthew Arnold on May 24, 2012
So basically your writers now have an excuse to rebuild the Berlin Wall...
Creator Jacob on May 23, 2012
woohoo berlin!!, i agree that honk kong is overdone, theres been 23 games atleast set in HK compared to Berlins 3
Creator Christian Harms on May 23, 2012
Who could've thought! My hometown!!! That will be intersting. In the district Spandau is a castle, perhaps that one will / can be included^^
Creator Melhelix on May 23, 2012
WOOO! Sweetness! I'll admit, I'm really hoping there's a castle.
Creator Peter Schott on May 23, 2012
Looking forward to seeing what Berlin looks like in the future.
Creator ThisIsJustMe on May 23, 2012
HongKong would have been so much more interesting. O.o
Creator Céline .S. Sauvé on May 23, 2012
Darn. Oh well. 'Tis free, and no one's going to _force_ me to play Berlin :p
Creator Emanuel Mayer on May 23, 2012
epic epic epic! ;'D
Creator Georg Hübner on May 23, 2012

Creator Brad Silvia on May 23, 2012
Neo-Nazis are a must.
Creator praguepride | TWICE TORMENTED on May 23, 2012
This game won't be complete without nazis now. Although I would tip my hat if HBS could make a game, set in Berlin, that DOESN'T reference the nazis :D
@Tobi: Why don't you just bust a cap in their ass?
Creator Tobi (Crusader Kickstarter pls!!) on May 23, 2012
@Thorsten Fietzek
hahaha! "protection from what, zee germans??" love that flick!
Creator Hideo Kuze on May 23, 2012
It would have been nice if I have had the chance to vote. But the damn email never arrived!
Now I only hope Berlin will not be a copy-paste of Seattle.
Hong Kong would have been so much better.
Creator Logan Roth on May 23, 2012
Awesome
Creator Jose Palma Gil on May 23, 2012
Yay Berlin... Boo Berlin... was hoping for Hong Kong but Berlin is my alternate choice so I'm happy/sad regardless
Creator Thorsten Fietzek on May 23, 2012
What are you afraid of? Zee germans?
Creator Chi-Young on May 23, 2012
CURSE YOU BERLIIIIIIIIIIIIIIN~! It's a European Conspirancy!!!!!!!
Creator Mark on May 23, 2012
I am sad that I didn't get an email so that I could vote for Honk Kong. :-(
Creator Robert Melcic on May 23, 2012
I hope at least if there is any sequalage or expansion or DLC it'll be hong kong since that seems to be the second choice!
Creator Mike Villasuso on May 23, 2012
Yeah, I never got any email either... blows.
Creator silverarm on May 22, 2012
While I'm perfectly happy with Berlin as the winner, I am rather frustrated that I never got a single of the emails that were promised. It makes me rather concerned about my chances for ever getting any of the pledge rewards.
Creator Kennan Ward on May 22, 2012
Was hoping for Hong Kong from the first vote. Oh well Berlin was my third choice
Creator Andy on May 22, 2012
Woot, glad to see that Berlin won. It's what I went for before the first half of the vote was revealed. I was kinda worried that Hong Kong was gonna win. I hope that we get to see Denver in a sequel.
If you keep working with Clifhanger ya'll could really do an amazing job setting up past(2050) events in single player while they do all the future(2060) multi-player. I'm so excited for everything Shadowrun... /squee
Creator Thlayli on May 22, 2012
Also, I have had a good experience with SurveyGizmo as a pro user.
Creator Thlayli on May 22, 2012
NND. I was hoping for HK.
Creator Lee Sweeney on May 22, 2012
Remember with the tools we can create MORE of what they give us~!
Creator Locoweed on May 22, 2012
Well....I voted Hong Kong...so I look forward to HBS showing me how awesome everyone else thinks Berlin is. :P
Creator Kristoffer Wessel on May 22, 2012
@tobi
sums it right up!
Creator Tobi (Crusader Kickstarter pls!!) on May 22, 2012
i voted for "more seattle" on the first poll, then berlin for the second. but honestly: i don't care. just make a good game. as someone said before: the stories drive the game. and as others suggested: just because berlin will be included first doesn't mean HK is out. if the game is successful, then HK (and all the other cities) will be made a DLC. just let the guys do their thing and make a good game and we'll get to our favorite spot in time.
also, dear game designers, include us backers, but don't invest too much time in micromanaging "our" demands. we donated(!) money for YOUR game. so focus on the game and your vision.
Creator Kristopher Andrew Miller on May 22, 2012
@ Justin Corwin: I think the game takes place at the beginning of first edition (i.e. 2050), so it would still be a free city.
Also
Yay!
Creator Justin Corwin on May 22, 2012
So is it still a Free City? Or is this after Saeder Krupp helped the German government retake control in late 2055?
Creator Dalriada on May 22, 2012
I voted for Berlin, but I would have been glad to see HK.
People need to remember one thing : no matter the city, the awesomeness will be brought by the stories. And I can see some good stories taking place in Berlin.
Creator Rafael Lopes Vivian on May 22, 2012
You should have added both cities. I know this wasn't in the deal, I'm just saying.
Creator Elizabeth Atkinson on May 22, 2012
woop woop!
Creator Miikka Mononen on May 22, 2012
I voted for Berlin twice as well, seemed like the one that hadn't been done to death (except in WWII-era games).
Creator Kellaen on May 22, 2012
Same as Matt, more Seattle would have been best, but Berlin as a second is fine. I don't see the fascination with HK, it's overdone.
Creator Erich Cranor on May 22, 2012
Hooray!
