It's a Horse Race!
Almost the minute our Second City Backer's Survey went out, we began receiving responses. Within the first 2 minutes, we hit almost 500 votes!
It's been fun refreshing the results page and seeing the votes come in. So fun, in fact, that we thought we'd share them with you.

HONG KONG emerged as an early front-runner but once our friends in Europe woke up, BERLIN surged forward! But wait, here comes the surprise contender: MORE SEATTLE!
Quick notes:
- The survey will be open through Tuesday, May 15th 11:59pm PST and we'll announce the results later next week.
- If you haven't received your email voting link yet, never fear! The survey system only allows about 10,000 emails to go out at a time.
- If time starts running out and we find that people still haven't received their ballots, we will extend the deadline so everyone can have their voices heard.
- Around 20,000 people have yet to vote, so who knows what can happen?
We're really excited about all of these places (no favorites here) and can't wait to see how it comes out!

I´ve never received the email to vote!!!
Creator Brian Miller on May 14, 2012
the graph at the top also only shows about 14k votes,,,, and there's 36k of us!!
Can we hire a team of runners to take out this survey company you hired?
Creator RC on May 14, 2012
Also, look as far back as May 10th in your Spam and Deleted folders for the E-mail from @hbs-studios.com
Creator RC on May 14, 2012
The vote E-mail come from @hsb-studios.com NOT Kickstarter.com - Which means Kickstarter backers get TWO E-mails, one is the Project Update #17, with NO vote link, and the other from @hsb-studios.com comes with a long link to surveymonkey.com <- that is the poll! LOOK for the #hbs-studios.com E-mail - maybe in your SPAM folder, or Deleted folder. Many people have found it there, especially with G-mail/GoogleMail.
Creator Brian Miller on May 14, 2012
I never got the vote e-mail either :(
Creator Julian C.R. de Freitas on May 14, 2012
I saw the update Email "Project Update #17: It's a Horse Race!" within my inbox. But when I reentered it there where no select-buttons for the cities anymore. Please fwd again.
Cheers
Creator Julian C.R. de Freitas on May 14, 2012
Also no survey in my inbox. Pls extend your Deadline!
Creator shakhaan on May 14, 2012
No survey email in my mailbox either. I just hope the deadline really gets extended, so I have a chance to vote as well. *Crossing Fingers*
Creator Dave DeWitt on May 14, 2012
I have also not received the email and I would love a chance to vote. It is nice to be a part of the process!
Creator Matthew Pries on May 14, 2012
I haven't received my email survey yet. I have been anticipating it! I've received all the other update announcements etc, but no link email...not in my spam folder either. I checked!
Creator Ben Odis on May 14, 2012
Ok, thanks. Very sneaky of SurveyMonkey to get you to create an account instead of saying "your vote was registered" ;-) . Their support answer wasn't helpfull either. But as you said: This is not the business of HBS.
So hopefully, my vote is counted.
Creator HerrDarkShdaow on May 14, 2012
I never received the email, my vote go for Hong Kong.
Creator fil-cat on May 14, 2012
there = their
sorry
Creator fil-cat on May 14, 2012
I don't think you have to sign in for the survey. It's a bit confusing that they close the survey screen with there add to join for being able to create you own polls after you have voted. They should state that more clearly and give descriptions and FAQs on there page.
Not HBS's fault anyway.
Creator Ben Odis on May 14, 2012
The survey doesn't work for me. I always land on a sign in site even if I'm already signed in. There's no access to the survey.
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance
Creator scott435 on May 14, 2012
For people wondering where the Survey is, check your spam section.
I apparently had mine since the 10th but thought I was going to be on the last batch cause I never saw it in the normal area of emails.
Creator Jeremy Cohen on May 14, 2012
Hong Kong is the clear choice since it's the most different. What that means is that there will be a significant amount of extra art assets able to be utilized for making user generated content. That'll give the community a huge bump in productivity and help get some extra stuff out there with a quickness so people will have something to pick up after the campaign (but before DLC). You'll have the tools to make European style architecture as well as Asian what more could you ask for?
Creator RC on May 14, 2012
@Fabio Tani Check the Shadowrun Returns -> Game forum on shadowrun.com tomorrow for a "stickied" (light grey?) post for more info... assuming we get more info by then from HBS ^_^
Creator Fabio Tani on May 13, 2012
I don't think I received a link for the survey, since I got the update I checked the email for an e-mail from harebrained, or anything citing survey monkey. Is there any way to request a survey link?
Creator RC on May 13, 2012
Hoi Chummers! Today is the last day the E-mail for the 2nd city Poll/Survey should be going out! Be patient today, check your spam folders, and remember it's coming from @hbs-studios.com NOT Kickstarter! It will have a "surveymonkey" link in it - which is the service HBS is using to conduct the poll! If you do not have your E-mail by the end of the day today, look TOMORROW (Monday morning May 14th in the USA) for a stickied topic in the GAME sub-forum, under Shadowrun Returns, on the Shadowrun Universe forums at http://www.shadowrun.com - or check the comments here on Kickstarter. Because comments scroll off the page, it'll be easier for you to check the sticky in the forums. A sticky is a post that "sticks" to the top of the message thread list, so everyone can see it clearly. ^_^ And chummers, I can't wait to see the poll results after everyone has voted! Knowing Shadowrun Returns is being developed, getting a chance to contribute ideas, and know they're being heard by the developers themselves, and engaging with a totally wiz Shadowrun community, has me so excited to see SR:R next year, it's like a cranial bomb of AWESOME exploded in my brain!! ^_^
Creator Lucien on May 13, 2012
Hong Kong!!!
Creator Paul Marzagalli on May 13, 2012
Also, i wouldn't mind a run-off between the top choices.
Creator Paul Marzagalli on May 13, 2012
I have to admit...i was pro-berlin (and that's what I voted for), but the idea of making seattle that much bigger is really intriguing to me. If Berlin doesn't win, I would be happy with Seattle being that much larger and more densely populated with content.
Creator Jordan Hampton on May 13, 2012
Yeah it went to the spam for me too. Now it shouldn't! Berlin for me. S-K was a big part of one of my favorite characters. Hong Kong was close second as was more seattle since what is Shadowrun without Amerinds!
Creator Matthew Arnold on May 13, 2012
Hong Kong for the win. Deus Ex it up.
Creator Patrick Abold on May 13, 2012
tell people to check their spam for the voting email, that's where mine was. Also, vote more SEATTLE!
Creator Matthias Rolf on May 13, 2012
I don't know much about SR, so I based my vote on two things: I wanted to see a non-american city in the game. That left me with Hong Kong, London and Berlin. London sounded kinda "meh" in the description. Since I'm German, I picked Berlin, because I wanted to see that in the game, although I think Hong Kong would be a great choice, too, due to the very different culture.
So, I'm happy with either of those two winning.
Creator IamHowie on May 13, 2012
Hong Kong as independent city... that sounds like China censorship bait. Hopefully by the time that game came out the Chinese Firewall won't cover me >.<.
Creator Stuart Connolly on May 13, 2012
I was torn between Hong Kong and Berlin and here's the reasons why, outside of these two every city seems to be self limiting and cater to only one kind of archetype or theme. Chicago, really, isn't there enough games where you get to kill Zombies and giant Bugs already? I don't want Shadowrun to be another cheap game off the shelf. Denver, it's kinda interesting but also extremely slim in it's offerings, kinda like a bone with all the meat chewed off, deckers and riggers would like the place, but nobody else would. London sounds less like a place you go to find anything other than a nice vacation spot or a third world country and little else. More Seattle? Really? Sounds like a LAME excuse not to make a second city!
In the end I chose Hong Kong because while Berlin sounded like it would be a dirty grimey place with lots of upheaval and civil unrest it also didn't offer much outside of those things. Hong Kong was the only city that offered something for everyone, more Megacorps means more competition, means more access to better goods. The dragon lines would be a great tool in many missions to come, not to mention it's consistent with a common theme in Shadowrun, old world stuff (Elves, Orcs, Trolls, Ancient Temples) meeting high tech future (Cyber space, metropolises, vehicles, computers), Not to mention you still have Gangs roaming the streets. Perfect place to set-up a strong Ebamazon hub/supplier/retailer during my campaigns.
Creator CalCD on May 13, 2012
I voted for Hong Kong because I thought it would be nice to see a different culture and how the awakening has affected it as compared to western culture
I would be happy with any option though
Creator Bobracha on May 13, 2012
Downloadable expansion content would be very cool.
Creator fil-cat on May 13, 2012
Wow, that’s really hard. Having lived for some time in Berlin and the explanation of the city having this intriguing mix of shiny high tech and shady anarchic free underground, I’d go for that. But HongKong would be nice too. So would be London. Or thinking further, I would also love to travel and see the future cities of Mumbai and CapeTown.
If you’re going for TirNaNog, you’ll propably have to approve of BlackForrest too (don’t forget that RPG’s and especially Shadowrun has a big German fanbase too – and who wouldn’t love to roam places he knows in his favorite games, especially sci-fi style).
And more depth like more Seatle is also never to bad a choice.
hmmm. I'll hope there will be planty of addons and extension once the game is released :o)
Creator fil-cat on May 13, 2012
I like the idea of a great finale! Best three cities in a final pol. Or better yet, make all the three most voted cities come to life! :o)
Creator RC on May 13, 2012
@Michael Hahaha! Well played, chummer! Well played!
Creator Michael Morfeld on May 13, 2012
In Finland! :)
Creator Pekka Södervall on May 13, 2012
Where's Helsinki?
Creator Michael Morfeld on May 13, 2012
Yes, partially what Matt said and partially because Hong Kong would be my #6 pick off of the 6 choices above. In fact it would almost turn me off of playing as I have that little interest in the setting.
It was a hard decision for me to choose between Berlin, Chicago, London, and Denver. More Seattle would be ok with me, but Hong Kong just falls flat for me.
I just wonder how many people feel the same and had their votes split quite a lot while some hardcore HK fans were able to pool their votes into the only Asian setting (the rest also splitting Euro and American votes).
Personally I am a bit surprised that Berlin is not running away with this considering the strong German following of Shadowrun.
Creator Matthew Pianosi on May 13, 2012
@RC The benefit of a second round of voting would be that more people get to vote for an option they would like. While you may not get your first choice you can lend your support to a second choice.
With so many great options using a first past the post vote basically means that a majority of people will have voted against the winner. For example if the numbers from the current poll were the final numbers Hong Kong would be the winner with only about 23% of the vote.
Creator Hyun, Sehwan on May 13, 2012
I just found the E-mail in my spam folder... thanks!
Creator RC on May 13, 2012
@Michael every backer received a link with the option to choose what city they wanted to vote for in the poll. If someone allowed themselves to be influenced by other backers opinions, non backers opinions, or the early poll results, that's on them! A vote is a vote, there's no vote rigging here! What would be the point of wasting more of HBS's time and money on yet another poll? Not everyone will be happy with ANY poll conducted, but the city with the most votes will win. Sure, some people may have seen the early poll results, and thin to themselves they'll vote "differently" based on what they saw... that's human nature, we're all a little silly sometimes. However, I personally don't believe enough people felt that way to significantly change the poll results, even if two cities turn out to have very close numbers. Second guessing ourselves after casting a vote? Also human nature! Let's enjoy whatever city received the most support, and let HBS get to the business of developing the game! I'm well aware of the issues surrounding the fairness of survey taking, but this is related to a Shadowrun game! Where you gotta watch your back for the corps dirty tricks >:D
Creator Michael Morfeld on May 13, 2012
I think you should do a second poll that just has the top 3 from this poll and see which of those 3 cities gets the votes from the 3 that get chopped.
Creator RC on May 13, 2012

Creator Roy Anderson on May 13, 2012
@All - Don't be sad if your pick doesn't get in. Somehow I have the feeling we'll see more games in the SR universe...call me crazy... ;)

I really wanted Chicago... Oh well Berlin wouldn't be bad.
Creator Cliff Hicks on May 12, 2012
Was a little disappointed San Francisco wasn't an option, but put my chips behind London.
Creator Marc D. Long on May 12, 2012
HBS could develop the #2 vote getter at a later time as a paid expansion - I foresee this game having the power to support even more locations as long as the players are willing to fund the creation of more locations to run in the shadows.
Creator Andrew Hows on May 12, 2012
Looks like London's out of the race. Sad
