Whoa, Nelly!
A very deep and sincere THANK YOU to everyone who has contributed to Shadowrun Returns so far. This has made for an interesting day, to be sure.
Here's a quick video update for you from Mitch. Jordan and the rest of the team will be back later to say hi.
Thanks again!

Count me among the linux users who are pretty disappointed with the withdrawal of the linux port.
I haven't withdrawn my pledge -- yet -- as I'm an avid Shadowrun fan, but the explanation they give for not doing one (given that, as mentioned above, if you're already porting to PC, mac, Android and several other tablets Linux can't be /that/ much of a stretch) is really stretching my credulity.
I guess I'll wait for the reasoned explanation they're promising. I hope it's a /good/ one.

See Jagged Alliance 2 for a great example of how voice work can enhance the game. The actual dialogues were campy and fairly poorly acted, but each playable character (over 40!) was fully voiced with in-game quips and tons of over-the-top personality. Almost every action in game had a corresponding vocal response unique to each character. Even though the sprites for every character were basically identical, It made hirable PCs much more than just a set of numbers.
I support not wasting the limited budget on voice work for cutscenes and dialogue, especially if the game's going to be dialogue heavy, but at least give us a few voiced lines to go with each PC. It really adds to the immersion and personality of the game IMHO.

BUG CITY!!!
Creator Stefan Kapahi on April 7, 2012
Hey Jordan, just wanted to tell you that you are absolutely right in your decision to focus on the single player experience rather than adding too much other features. You can't make every minority happy. I gave 30 $ because this is a game that I have always wanted to get realized on the PC. Thank you very much and best of luck to you and the team from a loyal German backer.
Creator Shingro on April 6, 2012
if we're talking X-com type things, It would be a great thing to be able to knock out targets with stun damage (conc grenades and the like) and ransom them back to their employers. It could also be a good tool for capture/extraction missions. Varying up the gameplay as it were
Creator Rraythe on April 6, 2012
Having an option for cooperative play would rock so hard! I'd love to be able to group with my husband.
Creator James Taylor on April 6, 2012
I agree with the Physical Adept request. And if possible to explore adding Cybernetics to Magical abilities. My favorite Shadowrun character ever was a "fallen" physical adept who lost part of his magical power and augmented himself with cybernetics to make up the difference.
Creator Kevin Behrendt on April 6, 2012
I do think voice over is tremendously important in roleplaying games today. Many may say "Nah I make it in my head" but if that argument counts, you could go on and say "I can do this and that with my fantasy". In the end, every backer get's their game but I am sure the project will cost way more and also has to be financed in other ways. So you have to sell this game to other people too and voice is a feature which could have let me pledge way faster, without even thinking.
Creator Sidney Chatfield on April 6, 2012
Shadowrun is such an epic universe, they should just focus on the main game and if (Hopefully) it does awesome they can release expansions with the other classes and new campaigns/storys.
Creator Patricia - Knightmare of ObsidianOrder on April 6, 2012
Ah Man! This is sooooo exciting! SR is without doubt my favorite p&p rpg of all time! And now with Jordan & his team on board, its going to finally be the computer game we've all been dreaming of.
But we've got to have elves, orks & phys adepts please!!!! How much more funds are needed to bring phys adepts to the picture?
Creator James Drury on April 6, 2012
Think we need some forums to go up soon!
Jordan, Mitch... I think you're going to be pulling in a lot more than $400k when it's all said and done, so I hope you're prepared for a game a fair bit bigger than originally intended...
Creator Levi Burks on April 6, 2012
Sooo.....I am all for keeping it simple. Good dialogue, good plot and good game mechanics but how much money do you need before you can give us riggers, physical adepts, elves, trolls, eskimos etc. and coop play? Give numbers man! Oh I just googled eskimos, apparently they exist already....good job.
Creator Yamir Ortiz-Morales on April 6, 2012
I agree too. Forget about voice acting, long cinematics, and all that eye candy. I prefer better storylines and deep dialogue. And put some love to the editor. Community efforts is what makes a game memorable.
(Btw, my favorite game ever, Elder Scrolls 3, has all the above just right).
Creator ArcNerd on April 5, 2012
Yes, good dialogue, good plot, good game mechanics. Keep it simple.
Creator Wayne F Newton on April 5, 2012
Damn Gonna use My old adventures to teach me the editor, DNA/DOA, Urban Brawl, Dream Chipper..Total Eclipse....the list goes on...Kudos to all those writers..and yeah I see there names in that lovely list.
Creator praguepride | TWICE TORMENTED on April 5, 2012
Agree. Less voice acting, better dialogue :)
Creator Byron on April 5, 2012
I'd rather there be NO voice acting and use that money elsewhere. More missions, more gear, etc.
Creator JC Stefansson on April 5, 2012
I would like to see a good modkit for generating additional UGC to enhance the experience.
Creator junkhacker on April 5, 2012
frankly, i would rather have good quality, atmosphere generating music instead of voice acting

Gave my $100... and will still be buying the iPad version, pledge award or not (though following the Baldur's Gate 1+2 Enhanced price model of seeking to be under $10 would be sweet). Looks like, at this rate, I'll also be happy to have it on my Mac. Congrats guys... looking forward to see how things go!
Creator Victor Rabadan on April 5, 2012
Great Game, can't wait for it..... Wish I could pay the 10000 for the tabletop game :P

Creator Jason Goldsberry on April 5, 2012
I am so happy; I grew up with 2nd edition, and now my son and I can enjoy it together; I am so glad I got to be a part of this, and to Mitch, apology accepted, not like you necessarily had a choice anyways, as you were on a leash held by Microsoft, plus people have to do whatever keeps them employed whether its giving up their principles, or whatever, principles are good to have, and great when you can live by them, but principles doesn't pay the mortgage or feed your family. Remember: shoot straight, conserve ammo, and never EVER cut a deal with a dragon.
Creator Arthur Chocholacek on April 5, 2012
@Nate: If they hit $425k, (which they're going to, obviously), Mac version!
Creator Nate Bower on April 5, 2012
Any chance of a mac version for those of us who drank the Apple juice? Not that I won't go buy a PC just to play this game...(please don't tell my wife)
Creator Matthew P Smith on April 5, 2012

I'm very excited about this game. I started with Shadowrun back in 1999 when I was 12 years old. Lacking time and friends willing to play Pen&Paper Games with me I stopped a few years ago, but I still like to read stories and game books today.
Though I really enjoyed the SNES game I missed many of the mechanics and ways to play that make Shadowrun an awesome game (like coop, focus on the complex rules, playing your own story). I really hope that Shadowrun Returns will make a difference here, and what I read here sounds very promising. Keep it up!
Creator Lorenz Kindt on April 5, 2012
I love the pen-and-paper RPG so much, supporting this kickstarter project didn't even feel optional to me. Thank the Lord for credit cards - frantically throwing cash at my screen didn't seem to do anything.
Good luck on this, guys! I have no doubt it will succeed and we'll get a great game from you! :)
Creator Carl Albright on April 5, 2012
I"m hoping for an experience similar to the GEN or SNES games, its ok if it has other elements but those games from so long ago have done their fair share holding Shadowrun up for all this time.
Creator Jarrad on April 5, 2012
Cannot wait, big fan of the SNES / Genesis games. Rented them over and over again back in the day. Hell, I even still have my copy of Shadowrun for the 360! I accept your apology :) (it wasn't horrible, just not as awesome as the old school stuff)
Hopefully MechCommander is next!
How are Harebrained Schemes and Smith & Tinker connected?
Any chance we'll see the original Shadowrun games on Steam or GoG.com?
Creator f s parke-robinson on April 5, 2012
Chaps,
Good luck on the project! Glad some of the old school stuff has the following still. What about bringing back 'paranoia' next lol
Creator David Gregory on April 5, 2012
Vadym Jankovsky you said it perfectly. I couldn't agree more!
