Ocean in a Teacup, the inspirational new musical, has been invited to present 6 performances at the MIdtown Festival in NYC this July.
"Ocean in a Teacup" is an original new musical drama, based on the uplifting story of Ray Hauserman, an American Red Cross medic stationed in India during World War Two, who never came home. "Ocean in a Teacup" is a different kind of war story as our hero is a sworn pacifist who in one horrible moment betrays his ideals. Its a different kind of love story as Ray's fiancee Mary travels to India to try to bring him home and Ray must choose between a sweet easy life with her and the challenge of living and working with the poor and helpless of post war India. "Ocean in a Teacup" is also a spiritual adventure story as Ray is inspired by an Indian doctor and teacher to learn to love on a deeper level.
Combining a theater rock score with touches of Indian instrumentation, "Ocean in a Teacup" creates a unique hybrid of modern melodies and world music rhythms. There are many songs that can stand outside the show and have a life of their own. When we had a reading of the musical at the TRU New Musical Series there were standing ovations for some of the musical numbers. At the end of the reading even New York theater professionals had tears running down their cheeks. That performance led directly to an invitation to mount a full production at the prestigious Midtown International Theatre Festival this summer.
We need money to pay 14 actors, hire 4 musicians, book rehearsal space, costumes, sets, lighting, sound. Help breathe life into something truly fresh and meaningful. This show will touch people and that is what live theater should be about.
