Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
Joanna has years of book design and layout experience, and Colin has ample editing experience, so we're well placed to produce a beautiful, substantial body of work. The fact that we've lined up so many great writers testifies to the potential of this project. Our main challenge will be finding and working with a printer that can ensure a great-looking finished product. Obviously, the more backers we get, the better chances of producing a stellar finished book.

The Morbid Anatomy Tote Bag is 15 1/2" tall by 15" wide, and has 22" shoulder straps. The image is drawn from a circa 17th century guide to the private museum of "Artist of Death" Frederik Ruysch, one of the topics covered in the book. You can see an image of it here: http://bit.ly/VWUFVk

Yes! First, much of what we raised will still be going to the book itself, to guarantee full color, hardcover binding, etc. We were a little conservative in our original goal, and now are in a better position to make sure that the book we produce meets our original vision.
Second, we’re using a good portion of that money to pay our contributors, which we’re also excited about—we are stoked to have their participation, your enthusiasm has helped ensure that we’ll be able to pay them for their time and work.
Third, any money we’ve raised by the end of the campaign in excess of what goes into the book or its contributors will be used as seed money for a Morbid Anatomy Press. Details on that are still sketchy, but we’re hoping that this book will not simply be a one-off, but the beginning of a series of books on medical history, the macabre, cultural attitudes towards death, the history of spectacle, and other interests. We’ll know more on that in the coming months, and will be excited to share that with you when we do!
