About this project

U*Space Gallery is a not-for-profit interdisciplinary art space run and operated in the low income section of what is considered the Historic Fourth Ward of Atlanta. Located just around the corner from the birth home of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the Fourth Ward has seen its share of hard times with the explosive arrival of the cheap, smokable cocaine drug Crack. It is U*Space Gallery's desire to create a truly sustainable art organization here that is people supported vs government supported.

"My goal is to create a vital crossroad for fostering & promoting community wellness through creativity & education. Welcoming any and everyone regardless of status. U*Space was founded on the believe that the arts are an integral part of sustaining a healthy culture. By striving to make art accessible visually and financially to a larger audience; We offer programming that places focus on individual, community, and global importance. U*Space is a strong supporter of new & experimental works that genuinely move, challenge, as well as help audiences to foster more meaningful dialogues. The space places special emphasis on works that help foster tolerance and understanding when it comes to the needs of women, people of color, youth, seniors, and lesbians/gays." The fourth Ward is a wonderful place to live which is why I wanted to create the world of U*Space here. - Terence E Jackson

What will your funding support allow U*Space Gallery to do -

1) Your support will allow U*Space the freedom to move from our current 1200 sq. ft location, which we have outgrown into a 2000 - 3000 ft space and still remain in the Fourth Ward.

2) Your support will allow U*Space the opportunity to showcase more visual art. We currently feature one vision exhibit a month and we are looking to increase that number by two. With not enough months in the year we want to be able to give as many of the wonderful artists we are meeting the chance to showcase their work.

3) Your support will allow U*Space to continue and expand it’s *ArtLab series and our commitment to celebrating new & experimental aural works. There are so many artist creating aural works that just don’t fit into large spaces and or the bar setting.

4) Your support would allow U*Space to create an art library that will house an extensive collection of books, video, audio, and other printed material related to contemporary art. It is very important that artists and audience members have critical understanding when it comes to why artists create as well as historical facts surrounding their works. The library will also offer free Wi-fi service to our visitors.

Terence E. Jackson

Straightpin Atlanta, GA

Terence E Jackson is the founder of U*Space Gallery & an artist who loves wearing many hats that include performance artist, playwright, singer, novelist, visual artist, dancer, curator, and filmmaker. Raised in Detroit, Michigan - Mr. Jackson feels that the purpose of art is to educate through entertainment. Having studied many different styles and forms of art, he now utilizes a deconstructionist approach when it comes to creating sound and language projects. Combining this understanding with his earnest gift of communication has led him to continually strive to create works that breakthrough, engage, and challenge audiences to look deeper and listen more closely to their inner voice.

His credits include working with the art rock band - Harper Fragment, NY’s Urban Arts Society & North Side Crew, The Gussie Gallery, Werehausen Art Space, The Red Light Gallery, the experimental spaces - 800 East & SAME, and the Atlanta Gay and Lesbian Arts Festival to name a few.

Artist First Radio Network calls him, "A complex and passionate artist, who's works immediately discuss the dark and the light of the soul."

Southern Voice Magazine says of his performances, "What I love most about Terence E. Jackson, is his desire to approach the truth. To play around her, to almost catch her, to envision her, so to speak."
