It's time to take my Beach Towel on tour! Measuring approximately 56" x 29", anyone and everyone is welcome.
After dreaming of this project and spending many many hours producing it and taking it out to my home beach in Miami to share with locals, it's time to take my Beach Towel on the road.
How it works
I lay out my beach towel for the day measuring approximately 56 x 29 feet. I bring sunscreen snacks, drinks, and games to share. The towel is for everyone! Anyone is welcome and encouraged to occupy and enjoy the towel as I hope to subvert the way beach-goers claim their temporary real estate on the beach.
The goal of the towel and its ideal outcome is for friendships to be made and bonds to be formed on a much greater level than any of my previous works have achieved. To have beach-goers feel that they're not as separated or different from each other as perhaps they felt on their way to the beach. I want thousands to experience it! The towel needs people and what better way to get people on it then by visiting them all, one city at a time.
Road Trip!
I'll be taking it on the road in August, just as another busy summer beach season comes to an end. The beaches should be packed, ready to be up-ended and energized by several hundred pounds of light blue terry cloth!
From concept to execution, I've been committed to this project for over a year. Financially, I've done it all on my own, but now I need some help, I need your help. The tour is planned to begin in early August.

- Car Rental and Gas - I'll need a covered truck, hatchback, or wagon to transport my crew (of at least two) and I, as well as the blue cotton beast, up and down the East Coast.
- Essentials and Supplies - Required nourishment to keep us going for two weeks, and plenty of sunscreen and snacks to make our's and visitors' time on the towel enjoyable.
- Cleaning and Upkeep - Let your imagination run wild with this one.
- Promotion - Getting the word out there takes lots of time and some money too!
About
The Beach Towel is part of an ongoing series of art works that question and play with the many ways humans attempt to control their interactions with each other and engage in a public setting. I observe carefully how humans assert their independence in a communal setting and force people to question a given alienating behavior's necessity, turning such actions on their heads as participatory opportunities encouraging interaction.
I intend to indict and subvert typically American excess, in an attempt to not only comment on how we choose to share the wealth (or not), but to also provide a space where I create the opportunity for communal transcendence above the conditioning of capitalism.
