Collaborating isn't always easy. But with the spark of conflicting ideas, something new emerges. It's synergy. It's Rubber Teardrop.
March 10th Project Update: Hi, Stephanie here! In light of the overwhelming response to Rubber Teardrop that has helped us to meet AND exceed our funding goal so rapidly, we've been putting our heads together to come up with some further way to say THANKS to all our backers with the surplus of funds raised.
Our BONUS REWARD Thank You: If our Kickstarter project reaches $18,000--I will record an entire, additional ACOUSTIC album featuring songs from both Dangerous Fruit (my first collaboration with Keith) and Rubber Teardrop by the Fall of this year, and EVERYONE who donates to Rubber Teardrop, at ANY level, will also get a copy of it once it's finished! Thank you SO much for all of your support and encouragement!!
Collaborating isn't always easy! I'm a singer-songwriter rooted in folk and pop from Portland, Oregon. He's an electronic/trip-hop producer from New York. I come from a lyrical and melodic sensibility. He comes from the world of beats and electronic ambience. We've both independently released many CD's to critical acclaim nationally and internationally. We don't always see eye to eye, but where we meet in the middle? It just WORKS.
Our 2nd collaboration, called "Rubber Teardrop" is almost done! We need to raise $7200 to cover recording, mixing, mastering and manufacturing.
Rubber Teardrop is a musical blend of both of our worlds. It features songs wrapped in textures of trip-hop and electronic bass and drums. We've got the songs. We've got the studio time. We've got the engineer. We've got the manufacturer. We even have bloody nerf bats! All we need is your help raising $7200 to finish!
Here's the breakdown of expenses:
Final Recording $1850 Mixing $2250 Mastering $800 Graphic Design $500 Manufacturing $1800 Total = $7200
Our process goes something like this:
I write a song on just guitar or piano. I bring it in to Keith. He immediately tells me to stop strumming right off. (!) He develops a beat that pulls the song in a completely new direction. I put up a fight and then back off when I realize how much I like it. He builds the instrumentation from bottom to top around my melody. One of us plays keys or guitar or both. We fight some more about the arrangement. But... finally... we (usually) agree.
And it goes on like that until we have an album we both love. And Rubber Teardrop is exactly that caliber of album, and we think you'll love it too.
Thanks for taking the time to read this and thanks for your support!!
(And special THANKS to Kickstarter, Auditory Sculpture, The Book Monkeys, tekbot.net, Kanon Havens, and David Pennington of Devious Goldfish!)
