About this project
Greetings!
We, Chadwick Gray and Laura Spector, (a.k.a "Chadwick & Spector"), just moved back to the United States, after 10 years in Thailand....We are putting together our first exhibition of Museum Anatomy, in the US since 1999. A lot of amazing things have developed with our work since then and we want to share our newest works with the public. We can use your help to make this happen!
We were chosen to have an exhibition this year at a school museum gallery in Utica, NY. It is a fantastic venue, and a possible springboard into other venues such as galleries, museums and university lectures - (especially when they see our photographs are already printed!). We need to fund the printing. framing and shipping costs of our Museum Anatomy photographs for an upcoming scheduled exhibition at PrattMWP in Utica, NY. The dates of the show are November 4, 2011 - January 13, 2012. We will be using non-glare museum quality glass and will have to create special wooden crates to safely ship the artwork so none of the glass shatters.
This is the poster we're offering:

Museum Anatomy, is a 18-year old project where we find paintings in museum storage facilities and recreate them onto the body in paint and photograph the final painting. (Spector paints Chadwick), The photos are enlarged, framed and exhibited as contemporary works of art. We have created this project in 12 countries. This is our first exhibition in the United States, since 1999.
Please remember, if we don't reach our goal, we don't get any funding and you get a refund. :(

We were creating site-specific performances in the Bay Area and were asked to create artwork for a museum. We always utilize what is already around us during our performances. We decided to recreate works that existed in the museum's storage facility that the public could otherwise not view. The first Museum Anatomy was created in 1995

If there's a gallery out there that can guarantee us one solo show a year in their space, and include us in at least one art festival/fair a year, then we'll certainly have a look.

A one-of-a-kind, painted plaster cast. Be the FIRST to own a Museum Anatomy sculpture. (They're really cool). As you may know, we started casting Chadwick's body in plaster and adding those casts to our final painted images. We have a couple of feet and a couple of hands to let you choose from. We'll let you have your choice. These have never been released to the public before - a brilliant gem, all for yourself!

Be a Museum Anatomy Collector alongside the distinguished Charles Cowles, Anton Fig, Jan Svankmajer, Howard Bilton and others, including a Sir that wishes to remain a secret. Purchase a signed limited-edition Museum Anatomy print. This is the real deal. The kind that we exhibit in galleries (like the one we're raising money for), sell to our distinguished, beloved collectors, and have auctioned at Sotheby's Hong Kong - (They're the ones who set our price in both 2006 and 2008). This is the price of one of our actual prints. They come in editions of 3 or 5, depending on the work of art. Some images are already sold out, but new ones are being created as we type. You'll have until May 2012 to decide which print you desire the most - you may want something that hasn't even been created yet.

For you, and only you....We will cast your head and paint it. You will be coated in alginate (which smells a bit like peppermint and soothes the skin, like a facial). You'll be able to breathe because we'll put straws in your nostrils. Then, we'll quickly coat the alginate with plaster gauze to hold the form. When you are released, you'll look at least 2 years younger and refreshed. (Chadwick always does, he's really 85 years old!). Then, we'll fill the mold with a material we can paint on. We'll recreate either a painting we select, or one of your very favorites. We'll sign the base of your neck and you will have an amazing sculpture to share with your family, friends or a museum. You'll need to either come to us, or provide transportation and accommodation for us to come to you. The casting will take up to 2 days, (you will only be needed for about an hour total for the casting process.). The painting will begin one month after the casting to make sure the material is completely dry. You're finished work of art will be presented to you within 2 months from the start of creation. * Don't want to shave your head? No worries, we can use a bald cap. Don't want to shave your beard?....that may hurt a little bit. *(we travel quite a bit, check in with us to see if we are in your area during the dates you request to save on travel fees).

We're Chadwick & Spector. We've been working together for 18 years on our project Museum Anatomy. We love digging around in the basements of museums to find paintings that no one has ever seen, (aside from a few curators), and recreating the found paintings onto Chadwick's body. We also enjoy fundraising for our artwork, so it can be seen by many people.
