"An aboriginal and non aboriginal storytelling collaboration creating language learning items for children of all colours."
FOUR Colours Productions consists of an ever changing team of artists, language teachers and translators, designers and educators. Our mission is to help in the battle to preserve languages by creating language books and materials that utilize and employ local talent and create a new tool for expression and teaching. As language resources for languages like Ojibwe are far less than in English we feel this is a worthy and needed mission. We would eventually like to also utilize technology but will do so with the arts as a main item of focus as children respond to visual stimulus. We feel that the arts and language are an inherent right and part of one's being and culture. We feel that through collaboration we can create more books that are of a high quality at a lower cost of time and money than if one person were to do so on their own. We also feel that through this collaborative process we can attain new perspectives and ideas that we would not otherwise have attained alone.
Thank you to Mara and Joy for your insightful comments! :)
Good news for sustaining native language, thereby helping perpetuate forms of thought that would otherwise be lost. We need each other, and we Western civilization people NEED First Nation ways of thinking to get our lives back in balance.
WOW: I'm so thrilled to see this happening! Please stay connected to History CPR books too (and like us, if you could please on-line FB at our page historycpr.com so we can grow a little).
Brita, Cecelia: I'm very interested in featuring this book in a future book that is set in the Upper Peninsula.... In the back of the first History CPR book we have a section called "Haylee's Top Picks for Young Readers"... When we are back in the U.P. this seems like a perfect fit! Maybe I need to not rule out this book for the back of book two... I understand that this is the Potowatami region, typically. If it were an overlap maybe we could include some history there; since I recall reading that in the winter their were many connectins between the Ojibwe and Potowatami joining together during the winter months... Oh, and when I do a second edition I could add your book into the back of Haylee's Treasure, Cecelia and Brita -- Please get in touch with me! Thanks for moving forward on this tremendous work!
Warm Regards,
Mara MacKay
P.S. LMK know of an address where I could mail a copy of Book One from the History CPR series and you can determine if having your book in the back sounds appealing to you and yours... I love what you're doing here. I gave as much as I could afford but, I would have loved to have given double of that! --Good Luck! Can't wait to see this come together for you!
Knowing the artist, author and distributor, this is an excellent resource for educational centers, schools and coffee tables around. Her work and understanding of the aboriginal culture is demonstrated in the published books and I hope there are more to come! So without a doubt, help support this project. Izzy!
Thanks for your comment Holly!
