San Francisco hip-hop artists are partnering with community organizations & traveling to Tempe, AZ & Albuquerque, NM to perform
There are two types of people in the world: the person who sees something that they know is not right, and does nothing about it but complain. And the person who sees something that they know is not right, and takes action to change it for the better.
There is a sick attitude in our society that says helping someone else is seen as wrong. How many times have you heard a right-wing politician saying that he doesn't believe his tax dollars should go to lazy welfare recipients? Or someone who belives he/she worked hard to get through school, why should special consideration be given to troubled kids who are on the verge of dropping out? It is disturbing how few people are willing to sacrifice a small portion of their own comfort for their fellow human being's sake.
There is something very human about the realization that at one point or another, everyone needs a helping hand. And there is something very selfish and inhumane about the belief that some don't deserve that help. Right now, there are millions of steps we could take- from huge and laborious efforts to very small, simple actions- that would lead to the improvement of our society overall. So, when someone says, "why should I?" I say, "Why not?"
As an MC and producer, I have been using the cultural expression of hip-hop to influence change in my community. I have also been working with community organizations for almost 10 years. I plan to show my support to the people working on the frontlines to make a difference in the world through the "Be The Change" tour. The artists on the tour are partnering with local non-profits to throw hip-hop shows in different cities. These local organizations are invested in improving their communities.
But I need your support! With the money raised by this Kickstarter campaign, the artists will be able to pay for gas, transportation, lodging, and venue rental fees for the shows with no cost to the organizations involved.
The first stops of this tour will be in the US Southwest. I will be travelling with Bay Area artists L*Roneous, Patience, and DJ BeatsMe.
