In August 2011, I will cross the country to promote my new novel, A Long-Forgotten Truth, the story of a young life upended by secrets.
I keep circling this tethered sense of longing that carries me along highway lines, that pulls my listless body to other coasts, but it's only because I was never really good at anything besides letting that longing in...
This is the voice of Gail Cavanaugh, the young narrator in my new novel, A Long-Forgotten Truth. Gail is eighteen when she unearths a long-held family secret. Haunted by a persistent, ghostly voice inside her head, Gail is propelled west on a highway journey away from the father she's always known. Guided by her ghost, searching for the truth about her origins, she lands broken down in Sylver, a mountain town in Northwest Washington, half a continent away from home. Trapped and cashless, Gail is swept up in the lives of three people with their own tangled longings and imperfections. Their haunted yearning is a perfect match for Gail and her ghost. Amongst past and present secrets, Sylver becomes a place Gail can't escape even years after she's left for good.
A Long-Forgotten Truth will be released by Rozlyn Press, an exciting new publisher of literary fiction, on August 2, 2011. In order to spread the word about my novel, I have the very enjoyable and fitting task of my own cross country journey. I plan to do readings and book signings in destinations that are integral to the story, such as the North Cascades in Washington State, and Duluth, Minnesota, ending the tour in Massachusetts, where Rozlyn Press resides.
Currently, I do not have the funds to undertake this promotional tour. Hence this Kickstarter page. I am impressed by all the artists out there willing to ask for money to get their art out into the world, and I'm even more impressed by all the amazing people helping them to do it! I am so eager to get this book into the hands of readers!
