A living chess game is a collection of actors on a chessboard playing a game of chess as called by the kings.

Playing a chess game with people as the pieces?  Pretty cool.  A page out of Harry Potter.  Costumes, a chess board, and hours of work preparing and rehearsing for a one hour show.  Improv and choreography, the game is never the same twice. One would think that watching a chess game would be rather boring... but add the fights between the pieces, fear the queen, pick your side and "Huzzah!"

Hi.  My name is Niki Potter.  I live in a major theatre town.  Ashland, Oregon: home of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival.  I have to compete with Oregon's largest Shakespeare repertory theatre.  SO, this production has to be good.  I have the venue.  Its a huge horse arena located on a farm just outside of Ashland.  The arena is enclosed and breathes, provides plenty of shade and has incredible acoustics.  There is plenty of parking room to maneuver, not to mention the surface is "fall-able".  The space is available for rehearsals.  Insurance is workable and this should be so fun.

As you can see in the video, living chess games happen all over the world throughout time.  They can be big productions or simple, but either way, they are so much fun and no game is the same.  There are no scripts, but each move between each piece has a choreographed fight scene.

The funds will go for bleacher rental, caterer (closing night), wine and beer concessions, insurance, costumes, sets, advertising and special effects.  There are two directors both VERY experienced actors and well known on the west coast.  There is one choreographer who is one of the best on the west coast.  Getting the space is just half of it.  Making the art is the other.  This is where you can help.  Be a part of it!
