Kara had written “lov3m3lt” down on a piece of paper to remember the new password for her business application.  She always used a word that she was feeling in the moment she had to change it.  Hal came into the room, saw the password and exclaimed “that’s it! That’s our new last name.”  We made the Lovemelt name official on September 24th, 2011; an intimate ceremony with every detail unique. 

Independently, we have had the dream to complete a full stage show.  Together we have wanted to collaborate artistically on the stage.  Together, we want to collaborate with our community; our friends and family both familiar with each other and unfamiliar yet expanding our community.  Together, we want to express our union artistically.  It is expression that everyone in our community is incredibly passionate about, so it makes sense that one of the most important moments in our life, our wedding be an expressive one.

We would like to mark this time in our life by making our independent and collaborative dreams come true.  Not only will this serve as a symbol of the lifelong collaboration it will take to keep our marriage fresh and strong, but it will also bring together the community in a way we have never done before.  This project will bring our friends together with our family, allow artists to explore new edges of their creativity, and establish a community effort for the community that has supported us for so long.

The fairytale story of our magical engagement, our wedding and our love will be retold on the stage of the Varsity Theater in Minneapolis on April 20, 2012 using interactive digital media, organic materials, live/original music and performance.  The stage will be adorned with painters, videographers, musicians, poets, directors, sculptors, dancers, actors, aerialists and prop twirlers; young and old.  Our dream is to give back to all those who have been such an amazing part of our lives through performance.  Our dream to mega-collaborate on stage comes alive. Love. Art. Unique. Magic. Beginnings.

The performance will be held during our wedding reception.  Family and friends will have a free pass to the wedding and other members of the community are welcome to join for a small entrance fee.  We will also request that our guests contribute to the performance rather than purchasing wedding gifts for us.

We are looking to raise $4000.00.   Although we have other sources available for funding; ticket sales and wedding savings, it will barely scratch the surface.  Donations will go toward the cost to rent the venue, physical props and supplies required to make those props (paper mache’, paint, LED’s, fabric, etc.), equipment rentals, artist fees, and other pre-production, production, and post-production expenses.
