Grow Northwest is a free magazine focusing on local food, farms and practical living in northwest Washington.
Grow Northwest magazine is a free magazine serving Whatcom, Skagit, San Juan, Snohomish and Island counties in northwest Washington State. We provide our readers with content and resources focusing on local foods and farms, agricultural news, practical and simpler living, do-it-yourself projects, cooking, gardening, crafts/handmade, adventures, events, profiles, features and more.
Grow Northwest is an independent publication that is family-owned and operated by us, Becca and Brent Cole. We have over 20 years experience in independent community publishing, and live in Whatcom County with our three young children. We love the Northwest and love what we do!
Shortly after we launched Grow Northwest magazine in May 2010, we were asked by many readers and advertisers "When are you going monthly?!" We are excited to start printing monthly in March! While we are an independent business, we very much operate like a non-profit – meaning we have a bare bones budget and we strive to be a resource in the community. We wear a lot of different hats in our efforts with this magazine, and are proud to say we can do a lot with a little. We are doing this Kickstarter fundraiser as a way for interested readers and members of the community to help support our mission as we grow to a monthly format.
If our funding goal is reached, we will have enough funds to print and circulate three issues, while we work to increase advertising sales to a self-sustaining level. In going monthly, we will be able to offer more coverage, and also expand to include in-depth news features examining agricultural issues in our northwest corner and general region. All content featured in Grow Northwest is locally produced, and we print our magazine at a local company.
We also hope in the future we can upgrade a computer or two (much needed), and move forward with other plans such as offering informational seminars, cooking classes, scholarships and other community outreach opportunities and events.
Many thanks to our readers, advertisers, contributing writers and photographers, sales representatives, and distribution help. Special thanks to Chris Patton for producing our Kickstarter video, and to Steve Crider, Kamea Black of Sip-T Tea Co., Anna and Geoff Martin of Osprey Hill Farm, and Rick Alcantara of Artisans Northwest, for sharing their thoughts for the video.
Thank you for your support to help make Grow Northwest magazine a monthly publication. We are so excited! THANK YOU. THANK YOU. THANK YOU.
