About this project

We are really proud to be premiering our new puppet opera, Zoophilic Follies, at RedCat's NOW Festival on Sept 22-24.

We just need your support to complete this exciting project.

The adventurous puppet theater company Tandem and groundbreaking glam opera band Timur and the Dime Museum join forces in Daniel Corral’s new puppet-opera, Zoophilic Follies on September 22 – 24 at the Roy and Edna Disney’s Redcat Theater as part of the NOW Festival. With comedic relish, Zoophilic Follies explores the lesser-known stories about the famed inventor Daedalus and illuminates how technology can give flight to our wildest dreams and gruesome failures.

Composer Daniel Corral draws inspiration from a wide variety of influences, guiding the audience through the twisted corners of the inventor’s own internal process.

Timur Bekbosunov, recently profiled in LA Weekly’s Best of LA People Issue 2011 as “the Reform Tenor”, and praised by La Reppublica as “effective and rewarding”, leads the cast, consisting of the experimental performing artist Dorian Wood, emerging singer Maesa Rae and renowned singer-songwriter Abby Travis.

Caitlin Lainoff designed puppets and visual spaces for the opera’s performance at RedCat.  DanRae Wilson connects the performers and objects using intimate and epic video projections.  Nicole Emmons, Miriam Jones, and Catherine Strecker, all amazing theater artists in their own right, will puppeteer the show. “I’m drawn to characters that have done something unforgivable,” says librettist Sibyl O’Malley.

With your support we hope to afford costumes for the singers, as well as pay our brilliant collaborators for all of their hard work and dedication.
