To-bali

About this project

Hi, I'm Daniel. I am a composer from Eagle River, Alaska, currently living in LA.
I was accepted to attend the APPEX artist residency in Bali in February 2010. It is with 17 other musicians and choreographers from all over Asia and the USA.
Once upon a time APPEX was fully funded by the Ford Foundation. But with times being a little harder this year, it is only partially funded. So, once I get to Bali everything is paid for. However, I still need to get my own air fare.
Funding will go towards the following uses:
- Air fare to Ngurah Rai International Airport, Denpasar, Bali
- Other minimal travel expenses
- If there's any leftover, it will go towards purchasing portable recording gear for the trip
Depending on your pledge amount, you will receive a different gift from me. If you pledge a certain amount, but want the gift for a lesser amount, just let me know.
I also plan to make a series of field recordings in Bali. These will be made available to everyone who pledges. Any amount over the price of a travel fare will be put towards portable recording equipment to make these field recordings.
It's basically a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to not only travel to Bali, but to work intensively with a diverse group of artists from wildly different backgrounds. The goal is to connect the dots of disparate cultural elements and come to a more complete understanding of what it means to be human in our globalized world.
