ABOUT KICKSTARTER
Every Kickstarter dollar is a big bite for Coast Bites. On the right side, there is a column with suggested contribution levels. Nothing can match the value of your support, but hopefully our special thank you gifts help express our heartfelt appreciation.
Contributing to Coast Bites is easy. Just click on the contribution level that feels right for you. You will then enter your credit card information into Amazon checkout so that everything is safe and secure. Coast Bites receives payment only if our project reaches its final goal. If we don’t reach that goal, your card will never be charged.
We are excited that you want to learn more about Coast Bites. We've included some video clips and project plans to whet your appetite. Every Kickstarter dollar fuels our hunger to produce a tasty video series.
ABOUT COAST BITES
Farms, gardens, and fishermen provide bountiful harvests along the San Mateo coast. Coast Bites connects local food sources with the community with a local television, video, and website series. Fostering connections with fresh local food is vital:
Actively supporting our local agricultural heritage improves economic vitality of our farmers and overall health for our community, especially our children--Dr. Scott Morrow.
Eating local embraces delicious, healthy ingredients at their peak. Coast Bites introduces local farmers, fishermen, and gardeners. It features harvests, seasonal foods, and events. Food education will be presented in a quirky Good Eats style.
Each episode will feature one or more local seasonal ingredients, from source to table. We will film ten episodes in our first season. Each episode will be 28.5 minutes in length. Episode segments include:
- local farms and gardens, meet the farmer, and learn more about the ingredient
- local eateries to learn how to prepare the
featured ingredient(s)
- local food events, from harvests to food banks
We know that eating food within 100-miles of its origin is the best plan for the planet and ourselves. Coast Bites shows how to do just that in our bite of the California coast. Click to view a map of the San Mateo coast.
MAKING PROGRESS
Coast Bites began as a short documentary about the Pacifica Resource Center, our local crisis center for residents struggling to make ends meet. Suzanne’s documentary was featured in an episode of Footprints of Pacifica on PCT26/PCT27 that Suzanne produced and hosted. (Footprints is produced by the Pacifica Historical Society.) While researching the story, Suzanne visited local gardens and farms producing food for their less fortunate neighbors. Viewers connected with those video segments and wanted more. That response (and a really nice review) inspired Suzanne to launch Coast Bites.

We have secured airtime on our local community television station, Pacific Coast Television (PCT). PCT recently expanded their viewing area to cover more of the San Mateo coast. Our new show fits well into their expansion efforts.
We have already assembled an award-winning team to produce the show. We have started working with local resources to schedule segments during their individual peak seasons. Our first season schedule is in place (with a few open spaces for those on-camera thank you gifts) and we are ready to start filming.
Well. Not quite. That is why we need your help.
FUNDING
How We Determined Our Funding Goal
We are video professionals, so we know how to calculate foreseeable costs. We are requesting the minimum amount to bring our project to life. We are raising money for feeding the crew, purchasing some equipment, and grassroots marketing efforts. Kickstarter contributions will only fund the actual cost of making Coast Bites Season One.
Earning a Profit/Future Plans
We will make our money after the series gains viewership. Based on the success of Season One, we plan to secure a YouTube partnership and/or corporate sponsorships to earn a profit and fund future seasons.
What If We Exceed Our Funding Goal?
If we exceed our funding goal (darn, it is hard to type with fingers crossed!), Coast Bites become even more delicious. The project menu expands with extra courses. How do appetizers, cocktails, and/or dessert translate to a video series budget? We would love to:
- add
freelancers to the crew, dramatically enhancing overall video quality
- expand our marketing efforts
- enhance Coast Bites website content (e.g., instead of presenting 28.5 minutes episodes in their entirety, we would be able to break them down into individual video clips)
- add more website content: ideas here include restaurant reviews, recipes, and food facts
- add social media components (e.g., viewers upload video clips/questions to the Coast Bites site that are included in future video episodes)
- film more locations in each episode
- savor your tasty ideas for more Season One content, features, and locations

Most food shows either showcase an individual chef or a destination dining. Coast Bites showcases seasonal ingredients...from the source to the table. We will talk with the farmers, fishermen and chefs about locally produced food.
