Update #14: Wrappin' it up!
Happy Holidays All,
Just a few loose ends to tie with left over wrapping paper...
1. Hopefully, if you requested a DVD and supplied your address, you have received it! If not, please send Lily a message.
2. Did you watch the DVD? No? Well, you've been busy. We understand, but when you do, please drop a little comment about what you thought.
3. If you were able to come to the show, do you remember it? Did you have too much eggnog since then? Well, if you remember, drop us a little comment and let us know what you thought.
Bethany and I are entering our LAST semester of graduate school, and we're writing separate papers about the project. So, in addition to the fact that you are awesome, this is why we would love to hear your feedback.
Thanks again for all your support in 2009. Lets do more in 2010! Happy New Year everybody!
-Lily
Update #13: Whoa!
I can't believe it's been just over a week since we did Complex Environments. Within a few days, Bethany and I were driving down to Austin for a workshop with Nancy Stark Smith, so I don't think I ever did a re-cap of the performance.
In short....it was GREAT! Great crowd, great response, great feelings all around!
Today, Bethany made the dvds and we will get them ready to ship off to all the Backers tomorrow!
Till the next time...

Update #12: One down....one last performance to go!
Wow.
What a night! We had an AMAZING turnout last night at Banter and were really well received by everyone who came. We are so proud of everyone in the creative team and so grateful to everyone who has supported the project. Thank you over and over.
If you are planning on coming tonight, COME EARLY. We were out of seats about 40 minutes before the show opened. Gangstas, of course, we have you covered.
Well, I'm off to start getting ready. Here we go again!
Update #11: Chaos has been found
Update #10: Gratitude
Update #9: Sneak Peak
Update #8: Sneak Peek Coming!
Update #7: Crunch time!
Well, as graduate students, we are also involved in the many performances that take place within the Department of Dance (www.twu.edu/dance/concerts.asp) This week kicks off our concert series, and both Bethany and I, along with several of our cast members, are in the theater every night rehearsing for this weekend's show. To say the least, we're pooped! But, that doesn't stop Complex Environments! We all woke up bright and early this past Sunday for a fun 8:30 a.m. rehearsal at Banter with our musician, John. Tomorrow morning, we shall do it again!
The postcards will be sent to print today- with a brand new design. Thanks for all the feedback on the previous design; your comments were noted.
A question for you: What slow song do you most remember from awkward school dances?
Thanks again for all your support!

I think it was "Almost Paradise" for prom one year. I really don't like it anymore. So cheesy!!!

Red Light Special by TLC. When I finally got up the nerve to ask my crush of a gillion years to dance that was the song that was playing. I was so nervous all I could talk about was how my dog just had nine puppies. Needless to say, the romance never blossomed!

Update #5: Sneak Peek
Update #4: the virtuosity of brushing your hair
I made a quick little post in my blog, www.makedancehere.blogspot.com, but I thought I'd post it here as well...
ahem...
The virtuosity of brushing your hair...
I've been thinking about virtuosity and how it relates to this piece. How can semi-pedestrian movement be virtuosic? Is it the transitions? It is the layers? Is it the improvisational nature of it?
There is something about the seamless transitions between casual movement to contact that seems virtuosic. How does one shift from a relaxed state of brushing hair out of one's face to a more frenetic state of jumping on someone's back, and then shift back to the original state?
What do you think about that? What does seamless mean to you?
I think you are smart, and I'd love to hear your thoughts...

Project By
Connected as Lily Sloan (765 friends)
The idea behind Big Rig Dance Collective sprung up while we were road trippin' from Denton to a performance in Austin, TX. Like highways connect cities, we aim to connect diverse communities through accessible performances, community classes, and collaborative events. BRDC is directed by Whitney Boomer, Crysta Caulkins-Clouse, Amanda Jackson, and Lily Sloan and creatively developed with many DFW area dance artists. We have recently completed guest artist residencies at Tarrant County Community College, North Central Texas College, Richland College, Green Space Arts Collective, and Ryan High School. We have collaborated with artists such as Sarah Gamblin (Dance), John Osburn (Music), Impulse (Music), and Hentai Performing Orchestra (Music), and performed in concerts and festivals such as Big Range Dance Festival (Houston and Austin), Dance and the Child International, and DFW Arts Goggle.

It was pretty spectacular. A fabulous event. Just one thought: someone I know did not go because he was intimidated by the ad, specifically, the word "interactive." He was afraid of being assaulted by the performers! I told him he missed out, no assaults took place- the set-up was "conventional' in some ways (conventional enough not to be afraid). Interesting that some of those who know what interactive means find it a turn off. Anyway- I wonder...
I hope you find a way to do it again- or a version of it or whatever... I love the dance scene, but I wish we could connect more to others.
